| aelryinth12-16-07, 02:49 PM | If you think about the series, tsunade never exhibits massive 'strength'. What she exhibits is massive hitting power. So, give her feats that escalate her UA/monk damage, make her a weapon master in UA (so,max dmg from all those overpowered fists x times/day) and so forth. Give her Disciplined Intellect and make her smart, but not wise (hence, her gambling problem, thinking she can out-think the house) and maybe kung fun genius. Also note that as one of the 3 legendary Sannin, she's one of the most powerful people in the narutoverse, and thus a level 20 or Epic character. All the builds for Naruto on the psi page having them at level 20 is just laughable...the kids are level 8, maybe. Also, for her healing ability, let her have the ability to use her monk's heal self on others, and use up stunning fists to replicate the ability. While she might well be a psion, the naruto verse doesn't fit perfectly into any build, because she's definitely one of the best open hand fighters in all Naruto, but her healing ability is both weapon and boon. ===Aelryinth |
| InkBlot12-16-07, 03:15 PM | Making a new class is complicated, and making a decent class is difficult. It requires a lot of knowledge of the rules, and a lot of experience playing. In core D&D (Player's Handbook + Dungeon Master's Guide + Monsters Manual), it's almost impossible to duplicate Naruto characters. You can get a generic Naruto-style ninja by multiclassing with Rogue or Monk, and Wizard, Sorcerer, or Bard. While she might well be a psion, the naruto verse doesn't fit perfectly into any build, because she's definitely one of the best open hand fighters in all Naruto, but her healing ability is both weapon and boon. Although it was a great way to show of the flexibility of psionics, and the fact that game mechanics can have multiple interpretations from an in-character perspective, I don't believe that psionics alone is the perfect fit for Naruto. That's one of the reasons why they needed all 20 levels to create these characters. If the builds were open to a wider pool of character resources, then I believe the Naruto characters could have been protrayed more accurately (although many may still involve psionics somehow). Although I stopped watching Naruto before Tsunade was introduced, from your descriptions and Wikipedia's page on her it sounds like she's a martial adept using Stone Dragon maneuvers (Tome Of Battle). She may have caster levels for summoning and healing, or she may be using Devoted Spirit for healing and leadership for her slug. Warblade/Caster/Jade Pheonix Mage/Master Of Nine maybe? Is that even possible in 20 levels? edit: A persitent/permanent/extended/whatever alter self would be her transformation technique. The egoist sub level from the Mind's Eye would work too. She could be a changeling, or could have gotten herself permanently transformed into a changeling, but that would be weird. | vorpo12-16-07, 04:06 PM | well,i suppose i wont make a class specifically for her,i would like to make a character similar to her It's my experience that the Naruto characters are best represented through psionics (which you stated that you dislike despite you have no idea about it) Psionics is, afterall, free material you can read online from the SRD. Just don't judge something before you have at least skimmed through it. If you like Naruto that much (after all, you started 2 threads asking about 2 chars within the anime), psionics really deserve your attention. |
| periscope12-16-07, 04:20 PM | Look in the important links thread and find the martial compendium. Look up "Fist Disciple" and "Sanguine Lotus". Fist Disciple is a Full BAB monk type that uses TOB. Sanguine Lotus is a martial school that was made for a "I know your body inside and out" or a "I know what makes you tick. I can keep it from ticking". Notice she does SURGERY not actual "their flesh starts growing back" that comes from a cure wounds spell (at least not from what I've seen). See if your DM will allow you to trade a school out for the Sanguine Lotus School and to gain the Heal skill as a class skill (shouldnt be that hard to do) since that is the Skill associated with the Sanguine Lotus school. Now focus on Sanguine Lotus and Stone Dragon. Stone Dragon best represents her "crazy strength" and "busting boulders with her bare hands". There you have it. |
| flaming-zetsu12-16-07, 04:39 PM | thx,ppl. i will look into the whole psionics deal,and keep you posted |
| flaming-zetsu12-16-07, 04:42 PM | could someone post some good feats or class abilities that would work well |

| vorpo12-16-07, 09:24 PM | Why use new classes if you don't need to? Because people prefer things the EXACT way they want it. Nothing does that better with custom classes. (Though I'm not in favor of such act) |
| flaming-zetsu12-16-07, 10:04 PM | yeah,im just gonna make a monk with alot of skill points in treat injury, then probly multiclass into somthin thats realy good at healing. any suggestions? |

For other book shorthands, you can do a search on the WotC website for any type of index (feat, class, prestige class). Once you get to the index, go to the very bottom of that index, there will be a complete list of all books dnd (3.0 & 3.5) and their respective shorthand |
| ericSHINRA12-16-07, 10:50 PM | Why use new classes if you don't need to? While Psionics is quite awesome in it's own right, I dislike the idea that in order to play such a character character you need to be at least Epic Level or higher in order to reflect all of their powers and/or talents. None of the Naruto Ninja save the Sannin and/or Hokage are over 20th level. |
| Cold Napalm12-16-07, 10:59 PM | I had a player make a decent souske with levels of fighter/monk/duskblade/tattooed monk/rogue/swordsage...yeah...it's not easy... |
| Mindolin12-17-07, 01:36 PM | Okay, let's look at Tsunade She is well known for her combat ability She is able to do healing better than anyone in Naruto, save perhaps Kabuto She has a high strength, perhaps the destruction domain for the smiting power, as evidenced by her ability to do tremendous damage. She is able to lift boulders, and was able to knock Naruto flying from just a single flick, as well as being able to crack the earth with a single punch. Strength is thus perhaps her highest stat. She is also known for Taijutsu abilities, so either has levels in Monk, or the Superior Unarmed Strike feat. I would recommend the feat, as well as Improved Natural Attack, to increase the damage even more. She is likely to have Improved Grapple, and perhaps Fling Enemy, as evidenced by how she was tossing Orochimaru around like a kid. Healing ability: average cleric stuff. Chakra scalpal is either Inflict or Cure Spells, depending on the use it is to be put to. Tsunade is likely to have the Healing Domain, to show her skill in healing. The Genesis Rebirth technique seems to be a Contingent Spell, activating a Heal spell, followed by a Vigor spell, to continue healing her, and, I can't remember if it increases her combat capabilities or not, but if it does, a Divine Favor or similar technique. I've made a pretty good Sasuke with Monk/Sorcerer/Eldritch Fist. It can be easy |
| Xiuhcoatl12-17-07, 03:37 PM | Tsunade, like most characters in Naruto, would be a gestalt character. For her, she would be a Monk 10/Warhulk 10//Cleric 20 |
| flaming-zetsu12-17-07, 03:38 PM | well,im gonna a character like her,but start her out at 1st or 3rd,and keep improving her(by the way,im making a male character reflecting her abilities)until it would be at what tsunade will be in the show |
| aelryinth12-17-07, 04:20 PM | Not once in the show does Tsunade display a high Strength (i.e. lifting, bending, breaking). All her displays of power come from hitting things, be it with a finger flick or a punch. She has tremendously precise chakra control, and can release that perfectly with a blow to tremendously enhance it's force. It's what she has taught to Sakura, if you read the manga...that and the ability to evade blows. She's effectively a superb UA combatant using feats/manuvers to rack up her attack dmg to 'insane levels'. And while she is not weak, she is never portrayed as muscle bound...sending someone flying with a finger flick is not about strength. She's a genius as a healer. Naruto healing works closer to fast healing with the 'ninja docter' set, with definite limits on recovery. They can close wounds, move poisons around, help set bones, etc, but nowhere is it portrayed that they can completely mend someone. Probably the easiest way to do this is a feat that allows you to use fast healing/1 on someone, a maximum number of rounds/day/person = to your Heal ranks, and never up to more then half their hit points (mending some physical dmg, but not taking care of exhaustion or the like). the 'half hp limit' seems like a good marker, as a lot of classes seem to set it as a limit. Tsunade is indeed a genius, the best healer in the Narutoverse. Kabuto is very good, also, but his specialty is more dissection (his touch could be considered a Cause Light/Moderate Wounds touch attack) and vivisection (taking someone apart and keeping them alive) more then putting people back together. He causes extra damage by taking people apart with his touch...Tsunade does by ramping up the dmg/strike to ungodly levels. I would also like to point out the fact that Tsunade is not a very skilled attacker. In the few fight scenes she is in, people either avoid her entirely (she looks like she's flailing wildly), or they sit there and get finger-flicked. So medium to poor BAB is certainly possible...it's just that when she finally does land a hit, things break. ===Aelryinth |
| Xiuhcoatl12-17-07, 04:29 PM | That's not true. When Konohamaru locked himself in the Third Hokage's chambers, all of Naruto's attempts to force it open fail. Tsunade pushes it opens it without even acknowledging any resistance, and easily brushes away falling objects like they were air. That's proof of her high strength, as Naruto himself is not weak. Additional proof is found in Sakura, who has been taught the same techniques as Tsunade. In one episode, she rips a thick mast off of a ship and swings it around--that's further proof of the great strength that technique grants. |
| Leo12-17-07, 04:34 PM | I'm suprised nobody refered sacred fist from complete divine. It's a monk/cleric prestige class. You get full divine casting, wich represents all the chakras and healing powers whatnot, and you also get unarmed damage, AC and speed progression. There you have your bare hand rock crushing healer. The psionic naruto is just hilarious. All you need to do is be level 20 and psionics replicate ninja students quite well. Yeah, but rogue 20 with max UMD could do it. Wizard or sorceror 20 could do it. Probably earlier. Heck, with enough work, commoner 20 could do it. |
| Leo12-17-07, 04:42 PM | Additional proof is found in Sakura, who has been taught the same techniques as Tsunade. In one episode, she rips a thick mast off of a ship and swings it around--that's further proof of the great strength that technique grants. Wow you also stranged this. Sakura, the thin bodied girl, who spends more time taking care of her hair than training, can rip apart tree trunks with her bare hands and then use them as improvised weapons quite well. Why the hell she never does this when facing the big enemies is indeed a mystery. What would that be?Still Monkey grip sundering justsu? Also, there's the fact that whenever she gets mad at Naruto she sends him flying trough walls. Not exactly weak. |
| Mindolin12-17-07, 04:46 PM | Which would make Power Attack a perfect feat for her, I think Unarmed Strikes should be allowed to be used with it. I could have sworn that Tsunade has shown great strength, but I may have been mistaken. Still, she does show at least decent strength, with how she was twirling Orochimaru around, and, albeit in the filler, was much stronger than the Legendary Stupid Brothers, who were themselves pretty darn strong. I haven't read much of the manga, I know the basics of what has happened, but started really reading the manga at the point where Shikamaru shows what he has learned in 2 1/2 years. As for the Kabuto/Tsunade debate I may have started: their skill in medicine is nearly equal, it's just that Tsunade has more power to heal. A fair bit of Kabuto's skill is knowing the anatomy, represented by sneak attack damage, and maybe some levels in soulknife, giving him the "chakra scalpal", either that or the Inflict spells. Starting her off, just go straight Cleric, or if you have access to the Dragonlance Campaign Setting, go Mystic, getting primarily healing abilities. First feat should be Improved Unarmed Strike, and as soon as you have the appropriate BAB, get Superior Unarmed Strike. It's up to you, but what I would suggest for the Domains is Healing, Strength, or Destruction. Or just find some way of getting smite, and you're Tsunade-hime is good. |
