Better HP, 1:2 progression with invocations and EB, but 1:1 progression with castr level for dealing with SR and using feats like Quicken Spell-Like Ability; DR of (class level)/adamantine, eventually get into the Construct type ... ^_^ Oddly enough, Chameleon (Races of Destiny). Just two or three levels of it - that "flexible bonus feat" has INCREDIBLE synergy with the Warlock's Imbue Item class ability. Being able to add a couple class features through Ability Focus and Mimic Class Featue can help with other things - like qualifying for other prestige classes! Maester (Complete adventurer) can owrk reasonably well for a gnomish Warlock who plans to make magic items on a semiregular basis; two bonus feats for more crafting options, double crafting speed, and an Identify ability that's very like an Invocation in many ways. If your GM allows Dark Discorporation to qualify a Warlock for Warshaper (Complete Warrior), that might be an interesting build. Blood Magus (Complete Arcane) works wel as-is, and a flexible GM might let you take the 1hp damage from blood component just to get the +1 DC for your invocations; the ability to Imbue potions directly into your own blood is a neat (if slightly squicky) ability. Enlightened Fist (complete Arcane) might be interesting; try a Warlock(4)/Monk(6)/Enlightened Fist(10) build on for size ... this one, like Blood Magus, might need a slightly flexible GM to allow "adapting" some of the class abilities to fit the Warlock better. Mindbender (Complete Arcane) specifically mentions Invocations as among the possible routes to qualify for the class - and it might qualify you for the Mindspy class (Complete Warrior), too! That same flexible GM might allow the Wild Mage (complete arcane) to be adapted (affecting invocations isntead of spells). It may seem strange, but it actually rather FITS for a Warlock whose power is of Fey origins: Sentinel of Bharrai (from the BoED, so by forum rules I can't discuss it in any detail here). Harper Agent (player's guide to faerun, a.k.a. PGFR) is a possibility, but I've nver liked it's abilities - a shade on the "why bother" side for my tastes. YMMV, though. A Bard/Warlock could possibly profit from the Stormsinger class (Frostburn) - applying all the caster-level increases to Warlock, of course! A half-elf Rogue/Warlock might get some mileage out of Scar Enforcer (Races of Destiny). There's always the Master of the Yuirwood (FR: Unapproachable East), which could work well with the right background. That's about it for my thirty-odd books. Really, to make the Warlock viable in a campaign with a lot of allowed books (especially the Forgotten Realms!), you and your GM need to sit down and decide wether or not to be a bit more flexible in terms of "cast spells of X level", and letting Warlocks qualify anyway. |

| Rathik04-01-05, 09:36 PM | Wow. I didn't think I'd get so many replies so quickly. To clarify a little bit, I'm DMing a campaign where Mindflayers are trying to resurrect the Illithid Empire. I made a group of about 6 mind flayers who are the BBEGs, and I was just trying to think of something unusual to throw at the party. I might have better luck after I can get my hands on a copy of Lords of Madness. What day is it coming out, anyway? My local Barnes and Noble says they won't have it 'til May! |
