Paladin's Pride 12-05-03, 12:11 PM	In my next campaign, psionics are something of the new kid on the block when it comes to supernatural abilities. While magic in all forms is a trusted and largely accepted force, psionics are feared and mistrusted, and psionic characters are subjected to huntings much like the Salem witch hunts. As a result I want to create a minor villain that calls himself a witch hunter and makes it his personal goal in life to slay the psion PC in my group. Therefore, it'd be really useful to me if anyone out there has created or knows where I can find a PrC revolving around defeating psions. I've heard of a mage-killer prestige class (though I don't own the Forgotten Realms book in which it appears), but I know of no psionic counterpart. Can anyone help me?
Aaron Peori 12-05-03, 02:41 PM	Well, there's always the Slayer in the Psionic's Handbook. Sure its focused against mindflayers, but you could easily modify it to a more general anti-psion class, by changing out Illithid Sense and Brain Nausea for a single more general ability, like maybe a Power Resistance trait of 10 + Slayer level. -------------- Epsilon

It says in the class discription that slayer abilities are very useful against any psi using character. Unless of course you arent going to have any psionics yourself. You could still use the PrC as a model for an arcane casting version that hunts psionic users.

Bifford 12-05-03, 04:09 PM	The mage-killer from Magic of Faerun doesn't seem to be a very clever PrC. All he gets is lots of saving throw bonuses and Spell Focus feats. Additionally, the mage-killer is a magic-user himself, whereas you want a PrC who hates psions and would never indulge in it himself. I don't know about any psion-killing PrCs, but perhaps we can design one. You should first decide whether this PrC will combat psions through spellcasting or martial means. Then you should look at particular strengths and weaknesses psions have that other classes don't; what makes them uniquely dangerous, and uniquely vulnerable. Here are some suggested abilities: Disrupt ectoplasm (Su): Psion-killers deal double damage with their weapons to anything made of ectoplasm, such as astral constructs and ectoplasmic armor. Naturally, this ability is very powerful vs shapers, so we should balance it out with other qualities. Saving throw bonuses (Ex): Psion-killers gain saving throw bonuses vs psionic powers and psionic spell-like abilities. This is much the same way certain classes get bonuses to saves vs spells and magical spell-like abilities. Brain damage (Ex): The psion-killer's sneak attacks are designed to damage the psion's nervous system and hamper his manifestations. After being struck by a successful sneak attack, the psion must make Concentration checks every time he tries to manifest a power for the rest of the encounter. The penalties from multiple sneak attacks accrue. Favoured Enemy (Ex): Like the ranger's ability, except against psion. Use Psionic Device, Psicraft and Knowledge (psionics) are all class skills.
