| Shadowfoot11-13-03, 07:38 PM | I have a dilemma. 1) I started the New Boards Prestige Class Compendium - and reserved the first three posts for the various lists - before it was known that there was a 5000 character limit for each post. Right now, the first post on that thread is maxed out. I've already deleted most of the opening text and randomly deleted a few of the listed PrCs. The third post is almost full, and the second post has very little wiggle room left. 2) Since the prune, many PrCs listed probably don't even exist anymore. Finding out which ones would take a long time. 3) I've grown weary of the Compendium. It's such a time-consuming chore, and I dread working on it and put it off as much as possible. Issues 1 and 2 just make it more of a headache. I don't have the time to always update the compendium as I would like, and I don't have the time to go through all the PrCs to delete the dead ones to make more room. I already have a full-time job. What I would like to do is: A) Restart the Compendium in a new thread, reserving the first six posts for the various lists, just so updating is not such a Houdini act. B) Enlist someone to spend an afternoon going through the Compendium and clicking every Boards PrCs link to identify the dead links so they can be deleted from my Word document and the Compendium can be whittled down. C) Enlist a second person who would be willing to also update it. I want to continue updating the WotC links part, but the Boards PrCs stuff is just wearing me down. So when I restart the Compendium, I would like to do so under a new screen name, one that combines my screen name with the name of the person who will share the updating duties. We would share the password and update individually as we have time. All I ask is that the current format be rigidly maintained; it's a simple format, but I just require consistency in how links are listed and so on. I would likely establish a Yahoo account that I would share with the co-maintainer, and the master Word document would be stored in its briefcase. Whenever one of us updates the Compendium, we would store the revised Word document in the briefcase so the other person could later update or use it. The most recent version of that Word document would always be in the briefcase. D) If I can't enlist a second person, I will likely discontinue the Compendium altogether. Is anyone interested in B, C, or both? |
| Darkest9011-14-03, 04:44 PM | Well, I am very busy, but I want to see the Compendium continue... I wonder if there could somehow be a website? I have got free hosting with www.darkest90.com. Unlimited space and all that. I wonder if that would be easier. It can't be that long of a time to update the compendium... Fifteen minutes a day? Twenty minutes? There is probably an average of two prestige classes a day. Hmmm... Okay. I'll update it frequently, but I cannot spend an entire afternoon checking each one. |
| strockrow11-14-03, 05:29 PM | I might be being a bit hasty, and I am somewhat busy, but all things considered I'm a highschool freshman and probably no where NEAR as busy as some people. As such, I'm willing to click on the links and help Shadowfoot prune through what's left after the cut. I really don't feel like doing everything, so could someone help me out? Shadowfoot, tell me exactly what you want me to do and by what time. If you like, I'll give you my e-mail address. |
| Shadowfoot11-14-03, 05:43 PM | Hey, thanks. For anyone who wants to go through and click for dead links, feel free to just claim a certain stretch of the alphabet, and post that here. "I'll do A through C" or something like that, and then click all the links between Aaron Peori through Cwslyclgh. You can email the list of dead links (you can just list the prestige class names, preferrably in the order they appear so I can just go down the list and delete) to lordofthedarklands@yahoo.com. I hope to implement the revisions next week sometime, so no real rush or deadline other than maybe by next Wednesday. I appreciate anyone's help... |
| Eco-Mono11-14-03, 06:20 PM | I just swept U-Z in the Prestige Class section and the entire Custom Core Class section... email on the way! Oh, and about job (C)... if I read that correctly, it says you'd only need help adding new custom PrCs and Core classes to the Compendium, taking care of official releases yourself. If it's that part you need help with, I'd be happy to volunteer... yes I realize what I'm getting myself into. |
| strockrow11-14-03, 11:06 PM | I got D through J. There's no need to e-mail you anything. I didn't find a single broken link. |
| Shadowfoot11-14-03, 11:08 PM | Thanks both of yas. No dead links? Damn! :tantrum: |
| strockrow11-15-03, 09:31 AM | J through R complete. Once again, I found nothing. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Eco-Mono, did you find anything? |
| strockrow11-15-03, 09:57 AM | R through T complete. This time however we had some slight problems, mostly concerning shadowfoots prestige classes. Top tom cat Zen master (down) Shadowfoot: Dancer Goes to Actor Magus goes to Divinate Poet goes to musician Singer goes to comedian Wodland archer, wild child and sylvan rider go to Moonblooded I'm beginning to wonder if some of these prestige classes go to different ones. In other words, they might be down but it's not visible just by glancing at it. |

I found one broken link among the PrCs. The core class section, on the other hand, has scads of them. |
| Shadowfoot11-15-03, 02:20 PM | Thanks again, guys/girls. I really do appreciate it. It's possible that not a lot of things were lost in the prune after all. Originally posted by strockrow Dancer Goes to Actor Magus goes to Divinate Poet goes to musician Singer goes to comedian Wodland archer, wild child and sylvan rider go to Moonblooded Actor and Dancer are in the same thread. Same for Divinate/Magus and the others, except the Moonblooded ones. Those are mistakes. Thanks for catching them. And Eco, about C), yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I don't mind keeping up the official release section, but it's the custom PrCs part that wears me out, so I would like someone else to take the lead on upkeeping that section, someone willing to put in an hour or so every two or three days. So if you're interested, fantastic. I'm going to relaunch the compendium early next week. |
| strockrow11-15-03, 05:08 PM | Did you do A through C yet Shadowfoot? I've got plenty of time, so tell me if you want me to check them. |
| Shadowfoot11-15-03, 07:29 PM | no, i haven't done anything, so the rest of the alphabet is free. thanks again! :D |
| Mousse11-15-03, 09:29 PM | Hey Shadowfoot, I'd be perfectly happy to help out. I do practically *nothing* on Friday and Saturday nights. I don't think I have the patience (or organization :D ) to update it, but I could check links for you weekly. |
| Loopy11-15-03, 10:16 PM | I'm too busy to do anything with the stuff on the boards, but if you need a simple web-page to put it on, I'm pretty sure my bandwidth can take it. Currently, I'm only using about 150 of my 10,000 monthly limit on data transfer!!! :pile: Pile it on!!!!! |
| Darkest9011-15-03, 10:38 PM | You know, we could probably do a trio of Compendium updaters. Shadowfoot + Me + Eco would make it much easier to update everything. Then again, if there are more than three people willing to do this, then I get first dibs on quitting... I'd like people with more free time than I to do this job, no offense. |
| Shadowfoot11-17-03, 03:19 PM | Thanks all. I've made some updates based on the email I received and what has been posted here. Hopefully, I'll have a finished version in a day or two and will likely relaunch the Compendium them under the new screen name. Still fishing for interest in maintaining it... As for space, thanks for the offer, but there's no problem having the Compendium on these boards directly. I just misjudged the space constraints at the beginning. And I'll have to relaunch it anyway to share the password, so an outside site isn't necessary. But thanks for the offer. Is anyone reviewing anything else? |
| Xorial11-17-03, 05:16 PM | The first time I read this, I had a gut reaction to yell," I CAN DOOOO IT!!!" :D Upon further reflection, I wouldnt have enough garaunteed free time to help on a regular basis. Just as soon as I started, my job would get busy. Putting my job first, go figure. |
| Aramar the Black11-18-03, 09:27 PM | Okay, it's been a little while, and I want to know if I can still help any. Can I?? keeping in mind I won't be back until monday. |
