Wrath can be controlled to some extent, and what we can control and understand can be used to unlock great powers. The Apprentice of Wrath is somewhat of a mystery. They, like the other Apprentices of Sin, follow a path where they embrace sin, and become close to sin, but aren't necessarily controlled by it. It's actually quite the opposite. They have learned to control their inner need to sin into something that benefits them. The Apprentice of Wrath has learned to control the aspect of Wrath. They have learned to control their wrath that they feel so compelled to follow, and instead of letting it free refine it and use it as a source of power without letting it become rampant. BECOMING AN APPRENTICE OF WRATH The life of the Apprentice of Wrath is only accessed by those who have some forms of arcane magical training. Because of this, Wizard/Fighters and Sorcerer/Fighters make the best Apprentices of Wrath. A straight Wizard or Fighter can make the combat requirements, but not at a practical level. Entry Requirements Skills: Knowledge (Arcana) 8 Ranks Feats: Progeny of Wrath* and any one other Wrath feat Base Attack Bonus: +4 Spellcasting: Access to 2nd level Arcane Spells Special: Must have been in a situation where you have let your wrath get better of you and resulted in the destroying of something important to you (whether physical or emotional). You must then have vowed to control your rage. *See Next Post Class Skills The Necrologist's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft(Int), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int). Skills Per Day at 1st Level : (2 + int) x4 Skills Per Day at Each Additional Level : 2 + int Hit Dice: d4 BAB Fort Ref Will Abilities 1. +0 +0 +0 +2 The Apprentice of Wrath 2. +1 +0 +0 +3 Feed the Wrath 3. +2 +1 +1 +3 4. +3 +1 +1 +4 Embrace of Wrath 5. +3 +1 +1 +4 6. +4 +2 +2 +5 Wrath Empowerment 7. +5 +2 +2 +5 8. +6 +2 +2 +6 Wrath Mastery 9. +6 +3 +3 +6 10.+7 +3 +3 +7 The Prophet of Wrath Weapon Proficiencies: The Apprentice of Wrath doesn't gain any new weapon, armor, or shield proficiencies. Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Chosen of Wrath level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in whatever arcane spellcasting class in which he could cast 2nd-level spells before he added the prestige class level. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class in which he could cast 2nd-level spells before he became an Chosen of Wrath, he must decide to which class he adds each level of Chosen of Wrath for the purpose of determining spells per day. The Apprentice of Wrath: You have learned to channel your spellcasting ability into the pure energy of wrath. By increasing the spell slot needed to cast the spell by two you can add the Wrath descriptor to your spell. Feed the Wrath: You have learned to channel the power of your wrath into the spells constructively. One per day per every two Chosen of Wrath levels you can channel wrath into a damage dealing spell with the Wrath descriptor to make the target of the spell take 2d6 wrath damage. Embrace the Wrath: You have learned to embrace the power of wrath and turn it into a constructive force. Once per day per ever three Chosen of Wrath levels you can summon a Wrath Puritan for 1 round per caster level. The creature serves you obediently until either the creature dies or the duration of the spell ends. If the creature is dropped to zero HP or lower, it simply implodes and is reborn on its home plane. If the spell wares off then the creature disappears back to it's original plane. Wrath Empowerment: Any spells you cast with the Wrath descriptor count as being maximized. Wrath Mastery: You have mastered the arts of the Wrath Spells. Any spell cast that has the Wrath descriptor counts as you having three more spellcaster levels then you have. The Prophet of Wrath: You have become a true prophet of wrath. Anytime you cast a spell with the Wrath descriptor you gain a divine-given energy. This energy gives you a +2 strength bonus for 1d4 rounds. This effect does not stack with previous uses of The Prophet of Wrath. PLAYING AN APPRENTICE OF WRATH Apprentices of Wrath, despite their name, are cool calm characters on the average encounter. They are usually self-controlled. This comes from years of controlling and mastering his inner wrath. Apprentices of Wrath almost always keep their cool, and instead choose to let their wrath out in a controlled fashion of self benefit but energizing their powers with it. Combat Combat is something that an Apprentice of Wrath tries to avoid. They have learned to master their Wrath, not let it loose. When the time calls though, they are fearsome opponents indeed. Their abilities have the capabilities to be empowered by wrath itself, which a dangerous force in itself. Advancement As an Apprentice of Wrath advances he has access to a variety of feats, spells, and powers that are only accessible to people who follow the path of Wrath. This allows for a greater flexibility in your choices. When acquiring a new level of power you can go several directions. Do you want to continue down the path of Wrath Mastery? If so, you should probably pick up some of the Wrath feats, available to those who have chosen the Progeny of Wrath feat. If you plan to follow the path of magic, then you should take meta-magic feats that will enhance your various feats. If you plan to enter into combat, take feats that will in general increase your combat abilities such as Weapon Focus and Weapon Finesse. Resources Apprentices of Wrath take the greatest benefit from his weapons and/or armors that he acquires. They help him when he is put into combat situation. Items that boost his charisma also help his different wrath abilities, so Cloak of Charisma could come in handy. APPRENTICES OF WRATH IN THE WORLD "I once met one of these Apprentices of Wrath. He was no different then any of us. People typically think that they treat their Wrath as an uncontrollable source, similar to that of what we perceive as barbarians. No, that's not what they are. They are much more controlled and disciplined. More controlled and disciplined then most of us." - Old Man Wickens. The Apprentices of Wrath provides characters with new options that allow for interesting role-playing and combat experiences. It brings in the theorem of controlled Wrath, which proves interesting for the various combat encounters, adding a new flavor to your spellcasting and combat abilities. Daily Life The daily life of the Apprentice of Wrath varies in many ways. Every Apprentice of Wrath is a different person, what they all share in common in their controlled nature, and their ability to channel their stored wrath into their powers. This leads the Apprentices of Wrath to use their abilities for whatever cause they might have. Notables Apprentices of Wrath have various notable figures within the history of the controlling of inner wrath. They come from all walks of life, all types of alignments, and all different motives for becoming Apprentices of Wrath. One Apprentice of Wrath sticks out more then most others. His name is Kerhazah Meilzka. Meilzka came from a family where he was abused in a manor of different manors by different family members. Through this he grew, an inner rage and hate toward humanity in general. Over the years, he picked up the arts of spellcasting. Once his spellcasting ability became refined, he channeled all of his hate and power into one final blow that killed many members of the family that abused him. After the guilt kicked in of what he did, he vowed himself to never let his wrath control him again. He then started on the road to becoming an Apprentice of Wrath. At this time he is one of the most controlled and wizened Apprentices of Wrath known to the public. Organizations Apprentices of Wrath don't usually form actual guilds or organizations dedicated to their actual inner mastery of wrath. The path to mastery of the wrath is a spiritual quest that each individual Apprentice of Wrath must follow. This however doesn't prevent Apprentices of Wrath from joining organizations dedicated to Wizardry or Magic. NPC Reaction Most NPCs who interact with Apprentices of Wrath see them as controlled cool figures who seem more in control then most. They also see Apprentice of Wrath cold or cool at times. Hardened by their experiences and inner struggles they have worked so hard to control. APPRENTICES OF WRATH IN THE GAME Apprentices of Wrath aren't difficult to introduce to a campaign. Men who learn to control their wrath in such a controlled fashion are they few, so they will not be so prevalent that they will disrupt a low-magic-quantity campaign. Also, sin is involved in every campaign, so the concept of being able to control it isn't unbelievable in almost any campaign setting. | thasis05-23-06, 05:57 PM | So any comments? |
| thasis05-24-06, 09:42 AM | I'm going to give this another bump as it fell back quite a bit and it's been over a day since I last bumped it. |
| thasis05-27-06, 02:21 AM | Yet another bump... |
| supernerd891605-27-06, 11:07 AM | just one question: what is the wrath descriptor? |
| thasis05-27-06, 04:44 PM | You know the [Evil] descriptor on spells. It's like that. |
| supernerd891605-27-06, 04:51 PM | Yes, but what of it? You need to explain the wrath descriptor, what are the benifits of it, what are the draw backs? |
| thasis05-27-06, 04:56 PM | The Wrath descriptor initaly does nothing, without the latter abilities presented by the class. |
