Arcane Archer questions. [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-06-04, 10:29 AM My character recently picked up another level of Arcane Archer, making him a 6th lvl Fighter, 4th lvl Sorcerer, and a 2nd lvl Arcane Archer.

Here is my question. Is there anything in the wording of the Imbue Arrow ability that would prevent it from being used in combination with spells cast off of scrolls?

If so, what do you think about the idea of scribing a spell onto the shaft of an arrow? I hope that doesn't sound cheesy.

And, just to be clear, you don't have to know the spell to cast if off of a scroll, you just have to be the right caster level and have the spell on your spell list? I have not played many spell casters, so I apoligize if that is a dumb question.

It's not cheesy - at least not in my opinion. The DMG does not say it must be scribed on paper; only that it must be "choice" materials, and fresh. If I were your DM, I think we could work something out. I would probably require the arrow to be masterwork, at the very least.

The only question, really, is if the spell would fit on the shaft of an arrow.

Mostly correct. To cast a spell from a scroll without any checks, it must be on your classes spell list, you must be of the appropriate level and you must have a high enough "key" attribute (Charisma for sorcerers and bards, Intelligence for wizards, etc).

However, if you are not of a high enough caster level, you can still make a caster level check to attempt to activate the scroll. Details can be found in the Players Handbook.

Oh, and don't be too surprised if this ends up being moved to the Prestige Class forum ;)

03-06-04, 02:13 PM it might be neat to make hollow arrows and put scrolls in the arrows to to be cast on impact or something that wwoudl be neat

03-06-04, 02:54 PM Actually, I almost certainly would not allow that. :) That is what the Spell Storing weapon enhancement is for.
