| AM roach05-10-05, 12:20 PM | At the moment im a ranger but when i get lvl 6 im want to cross class to a arcane archer but if i get to beyond lvl 10 arcane archer what do i do about special abbilites when i go up more lvls i know theres rules for things like base saves but do just not get any more special abbilites? all so am i right in saying if i got to lvl 10 arcane archer then i went back to ranger would i carry on where i left him? cheers sorry about spelling and grammer |
| solbergb05-10-05, 12:32 PM | Yeah, if you are ranger6/arcane archer10/ranger XXX you pick up class abilities with each ranger level as if you were any other level 7, 8, 9 whatever ranger. Ie you get 6 skill points+int, your spell progression on ranger goes up, your animal companion gets better, etc. Things change a little at epic (level 21+) where you could go epic arcane archer because you have completed a 10 level PRC and get some extra feats. |
| Ithamar05-10-05, 02:07 PM | How are you qualifying for Arcane Archer if you are a level 5 Ranger? Don't you kind of lack the arcane aspect of the class? |
| Samusic05-10-05, 03:45 PM | The prestige class actually requires you to take at least one level in an arcane magic casting class. You also benefit much more when you take more levels in an arcane class since you will have more spells at your disposal to cast onto your arrows. |
| Lael05-10-05, 10:02 PM | I've looked into making an Arcane Archer myself and found really that you need to be able to caste 3rd level arcane spells for an Arcane Archer really to be effective. So that really means being about 10level before going into Archane Archer. Right now my focus is on Deepwood Sniper which is a MotW splatbook PRC, which I'm yet to talk to me DM about updating it a bit. |
| AM roach05-11-05, 11:16 AM | Yeah two things one i said level six not five and i dunno what version your playing but archers get arcane magic at lvl four on the one im playing. |
| ccggenius1205-11-05, 11:31 AM | they mean its a requirement to take the class. not sure if it is in 3.5 but the description of the prc kinda implies that it isn't dont have my dmg handy at the time though so i can't say for sure. |
| Navar05-11-05, 01:00 PM | Maybe a hexblade would be a good lead into Arcane Archer though? |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue05-11-05, 04:15 PM | Rangers get divine spell casting NOT arcane. And holy crap Hexblade would be an excellent lead into Arcane archer... I never thought of that. |
| Rulebook05-11-05, 08:38 PM | 6th level is the earliest you can take almost every prestige class. arcane archer usually requires the 7th level, not the 6th. (unless you hold out for more.) personally i find the Eldritch Knight to be a far superior class. |
| Mellowship Slinky05-11-05, 10:02 PM | The Arcane Archer is really good if your DM is stingy with magic items or money (to buy special arrows), the ability to pick up any bow and have it be a +3 weapon is (in the right situations) huge. |
| beezly05-11-05, 10:22 PM | If i were to multiclass as an arcane archer, i'd be an Elf Wiz2/Rgr5. I'd be a divination specialist and lose enchantment (becasue at later levels it's all HD dependant), if you had an int of 12, each day you could cast True Strike 4 times, while still in armor (as it doesn't require a somatic component). Take the Prerequisite Feats at levels 1 3 and 6. Progression would probably be: Ranger-1 Wizard-2 Ranger-5 Once you get imbue arrow, you can throw around Greased arrows and, another fun thing, reduce person arrows. Oh no, the enemy ogre has reach? Not any more! |
