| Macrovore08-02-06, 03:23 PM | the Arcane Assasin is almost like the origional assasin from the DMG, but instead of having seperate spellcasting, they increase already existing spellcasting. good for beguilers. Requirements: Skills: hide 6 ranks, move silently 6 ranks, disguise 6 ranks, spellcraft 13 ranks Feats: Silent Spell Spellcasting: able to cast 5th level arcane spells. Class Features: BAB: 3/4ths Saves: good ref, poor will, fort Skills: as assasin, plus knowledge (arcana), concentration, and spellcraft Weapons and armor: the arcane assasin gains proficiency with all simple weapons, plus the rapier, the shortbow, the shortsword, the sap, the kukri, and the hand crossbow. they gain no proficiency with armor. Death Attack: as assasin Spellcasting: at every level except first, fifth and tenth, they get +1 level of any arcane spellcasting class they had that they had before taking levels in this class. This only increases spellcasting, not other class features (such as familiars and bonus feats) Sneak attack: as rogue ability, but the sneak attack is gained at first, fifth, and tenth level. Uncanny Dodge: At second level, the arcane assasin gains uncanny dodge, as the rogue ability. if they already had it from another source, then they gain improved uncanny dodge. Cloaked Casting: At second level, the arcane assasin gains the cloaked casting ability of a second level beguiler (+1 spell DC). If he already has this ability, the spell DC bonus increases to +2. At 10th level, he adds +2 to spell penetration checks against flat-footed targets. If he already has this ability, he ignores spell resistance, as a 20th level beguiler. Assasin spells: at third level, the arcane assasin adds all of the 1st and 2nd level spells from the assasin spell list to his normal spell list, to be learned or prepared normally. At seventh level, he adds the 3rd and 4th level spells as well. Hide in Plain Sight: At 8th level, the assasin gains hide in plain sightk, as the ranger ability. I couldn't figure out how to make the table, so i just wrote it out. I hope you like it. |

| Macrovore08-03-06, 05:37 PM | did you read the class? |
| LordPendragon08-03-06, 05:53 PM | Does it get 5D6 Death Attack + 3D6 Sneak Attack on top of it?? |
| Vestigial_Thumb08-03-06, 06:02 PM | did you read the class? Loosely. At first glance it doesn't seem all that powerful. I'm getting tired (it's 10 PM in Iceland and I have to get up at 6 AM) and will give you something more solid tomorrow. |
| Macrovore08-03-06, 07:31 PM | Does it get 5D6 Death Attack + 3D6 Sneak Attack on top of it?? where did you get 5d6 death attack from? it is a nonmagical save-or-die effect, just like the assasin in the DMG |
| StevenO08-03-06, 07:35 PM | First, DO NOT BUMP YOUR OWN THREAD quite so often. In a direct comparision to the standard Assassin: Entry Requirements: The Assassin (AS) is easy for an evil 5th level rogue or several other classes to enter. This Arcane Assassin (AA) takes 10 levels and actually has a steeper requirement than the basic AS (Disguise ranks). Basic Class: Same for both assuming the same d6 HD Specials: AA-No poison use or save bonuses. AA same Death Attack, UD (but not Improved UD?), and HiPS (should use assassin base not ranger) as AS which is much of the meat in the class. AA gets +3d6 vs AS +5d6 sneak attack. Spell Use has big advantage AA. Amazingly I don't see an arcane caster getting a lot out of this class except for physical abilities. Death Attack only works with melee attack. Uncanny Dodge isn't as great without a rogue's DEX to keep. HiPS is very nice at 18th level may not be the most necessary thing. A few sneak attack dice are nice but when are you going to use them. My recommended changes to this class: Gain Sneak Attack dice at Levels 1, 5, 9 (when you're BAB doesn't improve) Improve Spell casting on same levels as BAB (all but 1, 5, and 9). Restore the Poison use and save bonus Generally I'd recommend the Arcane Trickster over this. At level 20 you can have the same caster level, a much better sneak attack, and an only slightly worse BAB. To modify the Assassin PrC into an Arcane version I'd do the following: Add Silent Spell Feat and Concentration 8 ranks, Drop Hide and Move Silent to 5 ranks. Alter spell casting to +1 Spellcasting Level each even level, add assassin spells to your class list, and basically leave the rest as is. |
| Macrovore08-03-06, 08:42 PM | that's what i tried to do, but i wanted it to be more for beguilers. hence the cloaked casting. the requirements are bumped up to 10th level because a beguiler lvl 10 who takes the class can still gain the same cloaked casting ability at level 20. |

| Macrovore08-04-06, 07:47 PM | maybe i'll add that you can channel a death attack through a touch spell. |
