| blackjackg11-12-06, 01:20 PM | Hey folks, Does anyone know of a class that is an arcane caster, but prepares and casts as a cleric (that is, every morning, selects spells from a predetermined list). I've been hunting around and I can't find one. Essentially, I'm looking for a version of the wizard that fits into a culture of oral tradition, rather than written. I suppose I could use an Int-based Sorcerer, but if you have any suggestions, it might not come to that. Thanks! |
| Nachtwind11-12-06, 01:37 PM | Well the closest I know would be warmage(CA) or beguiler(PHBII), they both cast spells like a sorcerer, but have all spells for a given lvl on their lists available instead of choosing some of them each lvl... Edit: Since you mentioned the key ability Warmage: Charisma Beguiler: Intelligenz And forgot the Dread necromancer(HOH) same concept key ability: Charisma |

| DreamerInsane11-12-06, 01:41 PM | Beguilers, Dread Necromancers and Warmagi are essentially specialized Sorcerers who automatically know all spells on their spell lists, and can cast in Light Armour. Would that work for you? EDIT: Nachtwind beat me to it. |
| Manyfist11-12-06, 01:56 PM | Get rainbow servant, and you can cast both Arcane and Divine spells. |
| under lord11-12-06, 05:04 PM | Whats a rainbow servant? |
| Manyfist11-12-06, 05:12 PM | Whats a rainbow servant? PrC in CDiv. You worship the Coutals and they give you Arcane magic. I think a Psionic version that gives you Divine spell casting or Arcane spell casting but non the hassles would work. Any who, its in CDiv. |
| jamesnero11-12-06, 05:20 PM | take a normal cleric worship Mystra grab the magic and spell domains and BEHOLD! the arcane cleric:dancin: |
| Rixuzalthu11-12-06, 05:27 PM | In Dragon 311, September 2003 an Arcane Disciple was presented. Its a cleric class that can chose one acrcane spell per level to add to thier divine spell list. They get a bonus feat every 5 levels and have HD=d6. Its not exactly what you asked for, but might be worth a look. |

Er, Rainbow Servant is an arcane class that grants access to cleric spells, not the other way around. And it's not really a good class either; you have to give up four caster levels over the course of the class, which is entirely unacceptable unless you're playing gestalt. |

Are you limiting your request to WotC-published classes, or are you including 3rd party material or even classes posted on this board? I do not believe there is an official WotC class that meets your requirements, unless it is in a setting specific book (which I personally don't buy). |
| blackjackg11-13-06, 02:22 AM | Wow, thanks for the input. I think I might go with a modified Warmage, as that's the closest thing to what I had envisioned. Xylem: I was thinking WotC material, but if you know of anything from other sources, I'd love to hear it. Thanks again for all your suggestions. Also, if anybody knows of classes like these that have been proposed on the boards, I'm open to that. |

There have been a few things on the boards that might be closer to what you were asking for, but the only one I can find right now is the one I did called The Intuitive (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=657625) . You might find some of the old class compendiums helpful. I found these with a quick google (ah, new verbs!): The Core Class Compendium (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=197561), The New Improved Class Compendium (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=674770) and The Second Core Class Compendium (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=519526). There are tons of spellcaster classes in there -- perhaps one is exactly what you are looking for. |

Nope, text beats tables and the text says you don't lose anything, sooo Warmage is actually a pretty good choice that way. |
