| RealSorceror06-14-07, 11:01 AM | The truly beastly Beholder Mage class presented in the Lords of Madness has an interesting ability called Arcane Hands. It functions similair to a permanent Mage Hand spell, except the Beholder is treated has having hands for all intents and purposes. This includes the ability to make Unarmed Strikes and, potentially, use the Arcane Hands for a Monk's Flurry of Blows. Having invisible, intangible fists to pummel people with, or to deflect arrows, just sounds too cool to pass up. So, how would I go about gaining this ability without, y'know, being a Beholder? Are there any classes, racial abilities, templates, or spells that can duplicate this ability as a permanent effect? Could I shapechange/wish/miracle into a Beholder and take the Mage class, then retain the power after I change back? |

One of my favorite tricks for getting classes like this is having a form altering ability active. If its a racial beholder class, and the only thing that makes it such is a "must be beholder" requirement- then be a beholder until you max out the class. If it has racial abilities based on the fact that you are a beholder, like an improved critical ray (eye stalks), then you are out of luck. Let me know what you think, and we'll work from there. Heck, not every race can be as cool as Dwarves, we have classes that let people become Dwarves- we just make ya work for it. ;) |

The actual ability I want (the Arcane Hands thing) is at first level in the class, but gets better as you progress. The spellcasting abilties of that class are pretty friggen devastating, if you have enough eyes. Combined with the Ocular Adept prc, the character should still be able to cast the Beholder Mage spells in humaniod form, but at a much more reasonable rate. I also discovered a class in the Complete Warrior called Master of the Unseen Hand that produces a very similar affect, and actually stacks pretty well with the Arcane Hands ability, at least flavor wise. |
