Arcane smith [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-15-05, 04:02 PM I had a thought for an NPC class (or possibly a class for characters to add on the side)

It would be a person capable of forging magic items. He would gain spell levels at an greater rate, but he would be unable too use them exept when they are required for making a magic item.

Could this be a good workable consept.

08-15-05, 04:35 PM Actually that sounds JUST like the Artificer from Eberron. Their caster level is 2 higher than their class level, but ONLY for the purposes of item creation. Plus they get all kinds of bonus abilities directly related to item creation. They even get the ever useful craft pool each level, which is XP usable only for crafting items.

They are a great class.
