Arcane trickster and RPGA! [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-28-08, 01:15 AM Hi all ive just got back into the game again and im trying to figure how i can best Multiclass and meet the RPGA requirements for arcane trickster . Are Sun elves legal? and ... Could i possibly go like 1 level rogue 4 levels - I duno now if wizard or sorceror is better but i think i need sorc? to get the lvl 3 requirement for spell casting. Please help me lol im lost this only my second character ill be making in many years lol :D

01-28-08, 02:01 AM You mean Rogue3/Wizard5 doesn't work? Sure there are other ways to get the second Sneak Attack die required but this is the most basic way to build for an Arcane Trickster.

01-28-08, 02:22 AM ahh ok ya I see now i just read that i need 3 levels rogue to become an arcane trickster , but what i was asking i dont really understand the diferences between wizard and sorceror . Or even if it says here bard would be a better option im just trying to understand the class and have something fun to play.

01-28-08, 12:07 PM Fastest entry would be wizard 5/Rogue 1/spellthief or Ninja 1. That gets you the 2d6 sneak attack a level earlier, and gets you into the class a level earlier.

If you want to do the class with sorcerer, there's at least one more level to get through, so it'll take even longer. I'd recommend going Gray Elf from the Monster Manual (+2 INT, -2 STR, heck yes) and it's an allowed source for the RPGA. Every wizard in that game seems to play gray elves, because it's pretty much a no-brainer. Just take Rogue at first level for the uber skill points, and either take ninja (wisdom to AC allowing you to avoid some low AC issues, but Wisdom isn't that prime a stat for the rest of your abilities) or Spellthief and the Master Spellthief feat from Complete Scoundrel, allowing your wizard levels to boost your spellthief abilities a bit (assuming the RPGA hasn't banned that feat).

This allows you to avoid multiclassing penalties (wizard being preferred class of gray elves). On the other hand, you lose out on Evasion, but you're in the PrC a whole level earlier.
