| Kaylar04-19-04, 01:53 PM | I just wanted to make sure that I understood this correctly: The Arcane Trickster starts off with a +3d6 sneak attack at 2nd level? So If I had a Rogue3/Wizard3 with a 2d6 sneak attack and obtain my second level of arcane trickster, I would end up having a 5d6 sneak attack? |
| MystErikEry04-19-04, 04:17 PM | According to the SRD, at second level, and every even level thereafter, the Arcane Trickster gets +1d6 Sneak Attack. So a Rog 3 / Wiz 3 / ArT 2 will have 2d6+1d6 or 3d6 Sneak Attack. |
| Kaylar04-19-04, 05:12 PM | It does state that in Tome & Blood as well for the sneak attack description, but what confuses me is that in the level progression, at second level, it prints: :sneak attack +3d6. Which leads me to believe that you get to add +3d6 to whatever sneak attack you may have already had. And to quote T&B: Sneak Attack: This is exactly like the rogue ability of the same name. The extra damage dealt increases by +1d6 every other level (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th). If the arcane trickster gets a sneak attack modifier from another source (such as rogue levels), the bonus to damage stack. So I guess my real question is: What is everyone's opinion? Does the arcane trickster get to add +3d6 to whatever other sneak attack he gets or just add +1d6 at 2nd level of arcane trickster? And I'm not discounting MystErikEr's reply. I'd like to hear more opinions/interpretations of what's written in the splatbook. |
| MystErikEry04-19-04, 05:37 PM | Hey, I'm just quoting right from the SRD. I don't know about any splatbook, but the SRD says it's +1d6 for every even level, and doesn't say it starts at 3d6 or anything like that. You do mean 3.5, right? *shrugs* |
| Lotus Crane04-19-04, 07:24 PM | So for example, if you had 3d6 sneak attack from rogue, and 2d6 sneak attack from arcane trickster, then when you make a sneak attack, you deal 5d6 damage. Yeah, of course it stacks. |
| Salla04-20-04, 01:35 AM | I think I know where this is coming from. In the original Arcane Trickster writeup in Tome and Blood, the level-benefits chart said '+3d6 Sneak Attack' rather than '+1d6', implying that you gained 3 more dice instead of one at first level. The person who made the chart assumed that you would enter the PrC at the minimum level of Rogue (which gave you 2d6), then you'd gain another die for 3d6 total. So, no ... when you take your second level of Arcane Trickster, you gain 1 additional die of Sneak Attack damage, not three. |
| Lotus Crane04-20-04, 05:01 AM | Now I see where you're coming from... wow, what a crazy type in the original Tome & Blood writeup... yeah, make sure to use the correct version from the DMG 3.5. WotC doesn't have enough proofreaders... can I please get a job there so your silly mistakes don't make it to publication anymore? ;) |
