I am currently making a character concept for a Bard/Rogue, of chaotic good alignment. I was thinking that later on he might want to become an arcane trickster, depending on how things go in the campaign (we're starting level 1 today).

What I was wondering is, the Ranged Legerdemain ability, is there any visual effect to it? What does it look like or feel like?

Lets say I'm 30 feet away from a magical ring that I want to sleight of hand, if I hide in or behind cover, under protection of the shadows, does it produce a pair of glowing, magical gloved hands that swipe the item and float slowly to me? It does not explain it at all in the DMG.

Merci :)

I'd say it's exactly as visible as the spell Mage hand.

Which you'll note also doesn't say anything about visibility. :) Since it's not mentioned whether or not there is a visible component to the spell, I'd rule that there isn't, but I'd suggest working it out with your DM individually.

I would rule that it was visible but moved quickly enough to require a spot check. (DC 10 sees it,6-9 you notice something but can't actually see the ring or you, 5 or less you're completely oblivious.)A compramise something like that.

I am currently making a character concept for a Bard/Rogue, Me too!
In fact just today I've been creating a new class that blends the two together.is the Ranged Legerdemain ability visible?
Non visible.
From SRD
Mage Hand: 5-pound telekinesis.
Telekinesis is a mental power.
Ranged ledgerdemain is a powered up version of mage hand that allows you to use skills like open lock, slight of hand, disable device from afar.

The whole idea is for a thief to be able to ply his trade from a distance so as to avoid detection.
If this ability had visuals to it, it would be self defeating.
If you remember the illustration of the class in the splat book it showed a trickster hiding behind a wall while using this ability on a guarded door.
