I created a prestige class with one of my friend and i'm posting it to have your comments. The goal of the PrC is to convert all spell slots the character possess into 0 level spell slot, then use those spell slots to cast higher level spell.

Here's the idea
Arcanist
Still working on the fluff text
Hit Die: d4

Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks
Feats: Any two metamagic feats.
Spells: Able to spontaneously cast 3rd-level arcane spells.

Class Skills
Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Profession (Cha), Spellcraft (Int).
Skill points at each level: 2 + intelligence modifier.

Base Attack Bonus: Poor
Good Save: Willpower
Lvl Special Arcane
1st Arcane conversion, arcane power +1 level of spellcasting
2nd +1 level of spellcasting
3rd +1 level of spellcasting
4th +1 level of spellcasting
5th +1 level of spellcasting
6th +1 level of spellcasting
7th +1 level of spellcasting
8th +1 level of spellcasting
9th +1 level of spellcasting
10th Arcanist supremacy +1 level of spellcasting
------Class Features------
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Arcanist gain no weapon or armor proficiencies.

Arcane Conversion: At 1st-level, an arcanist convert any spell slot of a level equal to his arcanist level into 0-level spell slot. The number of 0-level spell slots gained for each converted spell slot are shown on the table below. Any spell slot the arcanist later gains are automatically converted into 0-level spell slot.

Arcane Power: At 1st-level, an arcanist gain the ability to use his 0-level spell slot to cast higher spell level he knows. To do so he spend a number of spell slot, as shown on the table below, to cast a spell of the corresponding level. He may only use 0-level spell slot this way to spontaneously cast arcane spells.

Arcanist Supremacy: At 10th-level, once per day, an arcanist gain the ability to cast a spell with a spell level equal to the maximum spell level he can cast plus one. He do so by spending twice the required 0-level spell slot needed to cast a spell of one level lower.
Spell 0-level
Lvl spell slot
1st 2
2nd 4
3rd 8
4th 16
5th 32
6th 64
7th 128
8th 256
9th 512

The number of spell slots that we choose for the conversion into 0 level spell slot is the following formula.
1st level slot = two 0 level slot
2nd level slot = two 1st level slot = four 0 level slot
3rd level slot = two 3rd level slot = four 1st level slot = eight 0 level slot
and so on...

We decided that this number is better than a system similar to the psionic, or a system were each spell slot give a number of level spell slot equal to its square.
Meaning
1st level slot = one 0 level slot
2nd level slot = four 0 level slot
3rd level slot = nine 0 level slot
4th level slot = sixteen 0 level slot
and so on...

The way that our system work is if a high level arcanist cast a 9th level spell by spending 512 0-level spell slot, the number of spell slots is equal to a total of spell slot of 8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1+0+0.

By 20th level, an arcanist (with sorcerer for its casting) will have 6138 0-level spell slots (without taking into account the charisma), its in fact identical to a standard sorcerer.

The exemple below, show the balance of the system.
Arcanist spell slots
0 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th
6138 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Spell slot equivalent
0 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th
0 1 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 11
0 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 10
0 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 9
2 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 8
4 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 7
6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 (same as sorcerer)
8 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 5
0 1 0 1 1 1 1 1 23 0

Wow, it doesn't look bad but it would probably just be easier to use a spell point system or psionics than to go though the headache of doing it that way.

Actually it is a spell point system, but instead of creating an entirely new system (based on mana point or something like that), i decided to make little change to the current spell slot system. This way, all the terms stay the same, and it can be used as a prestige class.

Nice, with two rings of wizardry this becomes really powerful. But I like this system. I would add some examples to how things get converted so it is easier to understand it. Have you play tested it?

Also, does the 10th level ability allow you to cast 9th level spells at level 15 instead of 17? Did I understand it correctly?

Psionics is easy my man. A little bit of math can go a LONG ways.

Only thing you must watch out for is that your limited to the # of PP you can put into one power = Manifester level.
Thus you can at lvl 20 put 20pp into a level 1 power, or into a lvl 9 power. Augmentation ftw.

On topic:
This system is odd. Why change the # of spell/day slots?

There is a Feat in the Ultimate List of Feats that converts all your spell slots into spell points; e.g. a 1st level spell costs 1 pt to cast while a 9th level spell costs 9. This means you could sacrifice a 9th level spell to cast a 1st level spell, or sacrifice 3 Fireballs to Shapechange. 0-level spells count as half a level for purposes of this spell.
