I was wondering where it is stated that an arcivest can put arcane spells in his prayer book. I saw that it said he spells are mostly derived from the cleric list but is there some where it explicitly states or strongly implies that they can learn arcane spells or divine spells from another classes list. Thinking about playing one in an upcoming game and know the DM will have me show them some sort of evidence that that is the intent before i'm allowed to do it.

I don't think it's specifically said you can have arcane spells - however, you get the full Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, and Shujenja spell lists, and EVERY DOMAIN SPELL . That's most of the spells, right there, including Invisibility, Antimagic Field, Fireball, and all sorts of other awesome stuff.

It says they can add any divine spell from a scroll, and all of those classes can make scrolls if they take the feat.

The archivist specifies that it can only cast divine spells. However, most of the better arcane spells are on a divine list somewhere, incuding domain spells and some prestige classes with their own lists.

HOWEVER, remember that an Archivist's level-up spells have to be from the cleric list (this does not include domain spells), so anything outside of that requires specific DM approval for you to buy/find a scroll or something.

An archavist is like an archivist, but with a far higher prospensity to wear fake burberry, Adidas track suits, sovereign rings, and yellow bomber jackets, right?

Anyway, I think that by some readings of the rules, it's possible for an archivist to cast any spell, but it requires something of an abuse of the rules.

For example, say an archivist wants to learn how to cast Knock. What he would do is have a wizard cast the spell, then scribe the scroll. The key is this passage:

Note that all items have prerequisites in their descriptions. These prerequisites must be met for the item to be created. Most of the time, they take the form of spells that must be known by the item’s creator (although access through another magic item or spellcaster is allowed).

According to this, it is possible to interpret it as saying that an archivist with scribe scroll could scribe a scroll of knock by having a wizard supply the spell prerequisite, and then the result would be a divine scroll of knock, which the archivist could in turn add to his prayerbook.

This is, I think, I misinterpretation of the rules, though, and shouldn't be allowed.

If you're gonna try to twist the rules, make sure it's with DM permission to avoid said smiting...

It says:
(an archivist can also add spellsfound on scrolls containing divine spells...)
The archivist can learn and thus prepare nonclerical divine spells in
this fashion...

So yes an archivist can learn spells from both spell-lists, but he casts all of them as divine spells. Also remember he has no Domains, he just gains two new cleric spells per level... etc, etc.

Doesn't matter if there's an arcane spell on a divine scroll because it's still an arcane spell, and thus, using the quote you yourself used, the Archivist cannot learn or prepare it. This has been debated too many times before, so let's please not. Let's just say that any archivist who tries to do stuff like this gets killed an be done with it, please.

Actually, the result would be an arcane scroll of knock. ;) You need to track down a divine spellcaster who has knock as a divine spell, probably via some obscure domain.

That's one way of getting new spells, by tracking down alternate divine spellcasting classes, and get them to provide the spellcasting, while you provide the scribe scroll feat, followed by you scribing the scroll into your prayer book. It's expensive, but that's the price you pay for versatillity.

And given that a lot of arcane spells exist as divine spells(domans etc), that's just as good as being able to cast arcane spells. And the good thing about divine spells is that they can be cast while wearing armour without suffering ASF... ;)
