| Edvilar Vladoren11-06-04, 09:36 AM | In the Complete Warrior manual, I have found an exotic weapon: the Great Bow. It is totally similar to the long bow, but it's larger and inflicts 1d10. It could be "normal" or composite, and so, it is really like every other bow existing in the D&D 3.0-3.5 rules. Now... all the "archer" prestige classes (arcane archer, deepwood sniper, Initiate of the Bow Order, ecc. ecc.) request feats about long or short bow and their composite version, but no one talk about the Great Bow. Do you know any reason for which prestige classes could be incompatible with the Great Bow? P.S.: I'm sorry for my "bad English". :( |
| malykoth11-06-04, 09:47 AM | I'm in a game now where I have a character using a great bow. My DM has no problem with it counting as a "regular" composite bow for purposes of PrC prerequisites. I guess it depends on what your DM will allow. By the way, remember that you need to take the "Exotic Weapon Proficiency/Composite Great Bow" feat to not have that -4 penalty to attack rolls, as the great bow is an exotic ranged weapon. ;) |
| Outh11-06-04, 10:54 AM | I'd accept it, but it's up to your dm |
| Edvilar Vladoren11-06-04, 02:27 PM | It is quite obvious that the last word is "property" of my DM, but I prefer to listen some reasons for which a DM could not accept the Great Bow between the feats requested by some prestige classes. |

| Dire Celestial Bonobo11-07-04, 03:34 AM | No one han anything to say about this topic? Not really. "Great Bow" essentially means "trade a feat for +1 damage and improved range". If your DM is having trouble with archers outshining melee fighters, he may not want to allow great bows to be used with archer prestige classes, just as a balancing measure. Certain classes (Order of the Bow) seem very appropriate for a great bow wielder, but other classes (Deepwood Sniper) I could imagine not allowing it (such a large bow would be unwieldy in a deep forest, and the extra range would usually be wasted because of limited line of sight). Otherwise, I don't see any reason why not, at least in general. +1 damage and +20' range is reasonable for a feat, even if it does make the ranged version of Exotic Weapon Proficiency much better than the melee version. |
| klode_me03-02-05, 01:54 AM | But just to remind you: In the CAdv. sidebar at page 116: complete warrior introduced several Exotic weapons Bla...Bla....Bla... those you have chosen some feats to apply to the exotic version as well: on the table Greatbow=longbow. |
