I want to make a great archer character.

Was planning to start with ranger/wizard and then take arcane archer (DMGI) and order of the bow initiate(CoW).

Are there any other prestige classes i need to consider?

deepwood sniper from masters of wild for critical effects.

peerless archer from from silver marches for ranged power attack

Cragtop Archer from Races of stone is interesting for massive range.

Deepwood sniper is one of my favorite classes, if you arn't limited on books pick up the ultimate book of prestiege classes volume 1, it has a really nice class in it that gives AoO at range, bonus dmg and other things like that.

Given the core books plus Complete Warrior I had considered this:
Fighter4/Wizard2/OtBInitiate1/ArAr10/OtBI2-4
Fighter 4 to get your prereqs and specialization
Wizard 2 to get the arcane requirements (Sorcerer possible)
Order of the Bow mostly for that last +1 BAB pre AA along with greater weapon focus and the ability to shoot while threatened.

With the PHB2's Duskblade you can get the Arcane Archer's prereqs all from one base class and actually gain a few spells to imbue into your arrows.

mm, thanks for all the suggestions.

Deepwood Sniper the first three levels seem really nice. Also the peerless archer seems to be a real bad ass: +5 magic arrows, ranged sneak attack. ranged power attack and threat range of 10 ft.

The Order of the Bow Initiate seems not very usefull (that precise shot ability is pretty useless, especially when you got a very hard hitting bot, then a simple feat like manyshot will do more damage at -2).

Now i still need to decide which baseclasses i need to go for: fighter for the weapon specialization, rogue maybe, or ranger...

Also some additional questions:

*Since the peerless archer can also take +5 magic arrows the arcane archer seems a bit redundant, but how good are those special arrows of him??

I like 4 levels of fighter now, beause of Ranged Weapon Mastery in PHB2... also a level in scout is pretty handy... so are 2 levels in ranger, based on the prereqs of the PrC you are going for I would try to get as many of those in as possible.

I dunno know pre-reqs, but human or dwarven fighter 4/ranger 2/scout 1/deepwood sniper x/peerless archer x/ could be very nice.

don't have PHB2 right now, but I thought that feat gave +2 attack and +2 damae with ranged weapons... like the MWM counter-part.

Peerless Archer seems a bit odd with the fletching ability. It needs updated to 3.5. magic arrows are pointless now (for PCs). Other than that yea awsome class. Power shot is sweet. Oh yea the sharpshooting ability is a bit outdated.
