Also, just thinking that someone with a high INT could combine this class with Wizard and take Mystic Theurge and the spell world is your oyster. The way I understand it, if its on a scroll, and you make the check to copy it, you're good to go. As for your free spells, it must appearon the Cleric spell list to be learned. Also, just thinking that someone with a high INT could combine this class with Wizard and take Mystic Theurge and the spell world is your oyster. I've already beaten you to that one, though I like Loremaster for this build a lot more. :D But, Archivist 5/Wizard 5/MTheurge 10 is a very solid 20 level caster build.
GimliGloinson 11-04-05, 02:21 PM	I really like Archivists, but the decision my group has come up with is this: they can freely choose spells from the primary cleric spell list, but any spells from other sources (Druids, Rangers, Paladins, etc, as well as other sourcebooks like Complete Divine, etc.) must be acquired in some form (either scroll, tome or something else) in game. Domain spells are not available - it leads to too much headache!
Silverthumb128 11-04-05, 02:29 PM	I agree, Archivist is one of my favorite classes. Unfortunately, I don't think there's been an Archivist version of "Collegiate Wizard" printed yet. :D Lucky for DMs, bad for me.

It struck me as being Clerical spells that he/she wouldn't be able to access though level progression and then it said that they could learn non-clerical devine spells. Literally that ruled out domain spells, but it implied they could possibly. I`m now personally inclined to not allow them access to domain spells now. (this view could change). Thanks again. p.s. Has anyone else translated those runes in the main artwork from races of Stone? Look at the chapter beginning artwork. Me thinks someone was trying to say something. I`d use late-anglo saxon. Very similar to Tolkien's Dwarven.(Anyone would think he nicked it from them, perish the thought).

Judgeohno 11-04-05, 02:47 PM	I see and like your reasoning. If I was a player I would push my DM to make a ruling before I took/generated the character/class. I greatly like it that you can go for a high Int and ignore Wisdom and get clerical spells. Almost like eating chocolate with out the calories. Their definitely a lot of ranger/paladin/druid spells that would be some much fun combined with wizardly power. Even on a low power spells like Barkskin. Now Wizard boy can make Amulets of Natural armour. Combined with a item with permanent Mage armour and Shield, that would be a very respectable AC. Judgeohno
Silverthumb128 11-04-05, 03:08 PM	Well, to be honest, it isn't just my reasoning, its actually in the class description under "Prayerbook". :D And I agree, there really are a great number of Divine spells that are good to add in. Got a Blackguard problem? Transmute his Metal armor to Wood, then Firestrike him. :D
Seeker of Undeath 11-04-05, 03:35 PM	The Mystic Theurge would be a decent way to go to net a huge number of spell slots. I'd probably go Archivist/Diviner/Theurge and forbid Necromancy, letting Archivist pick up the slack. On the other hand, if you want a nice mix of cleric and wizard spells but also want to keep your relative punch up, you could play a straight Archivist and buy scrolls scribed by adepts. That'll give you the majority of wizard spells right there. The odd shugenja scroll should round things out nicely. Of course if you know your DM is going to hose you on scroll availability, just do the Theurge and grin. :D

I believe it’s some sort of ancient Dwarven chant of power. The exact translation is something like: "Whoever falls asleep with a scratching ass awakens with a stinking finger." Dwarves...
