02-13-06, 07:36 PM Should Archivists be able to use their dark knowledge against creatures that are previously unknown to the game world? What if it was a newly created aberration created by a deranged wizard, unique and previouly unseen? What are your opinions?

One example of such a situation would be the drow in Eberron. I know that Dark knowledge doesn't really work on them but, for argument's sake lets say that it could. I believe I remember there being something about them being an unknown race in eberron so you can never make knowledge checks above dc10 to learn anything about them. Since the minimum DC to use dark knowledge is a 15 I assume that Dark knowledge is not usable against drow in eberron.

02-13-06, 07:45 PM If, for plotline purposes, the archivist has never had the opportunity to study or have heard of a creature becaus eit does not exist in their world, no theiy shouldn't be able to use that Dark Knowledge on it, I don't think, but this is up to DM descretion.

02-14-06, 12:56 AM Considering that the bonuses from Dark Knowledge are temporary even though knowledge or instructions about how to defeat a creature can't exactly fade away and can only be used a certain number of times per day, I'd say the the effect is semi-magical, and should still work.

This is off the top of my head without looking at the book, and I've never actually used the class, so it's entirely possible that I'm way off.
