The new Archivist class in Heros of Horror is awesome! Check it out in the excerpts!
I'm in love with the Archivist class. it's just so cool.
It makes a wonderful Mystic Thurge since it uses the same stat as Wizards and pretty much any wizard would fall easily into this as well.

Back in a dragon issue, there were some nice feats for Mystic Thurges, one of which is Alternative Source Spell ('http://www.imarvintpa.com/dndLive/feats.asp?ID=888') that allow you to prepare spells as Divine or Arcane using the same level slot in the class that normally prepares it, although you loose a caster level when casting it. Since all the Archivist needs is a divine scroll of a spell, you can prepare a spell that way, then scribe the scroll! Thus all your wizard spells can also be prepared as Archivist spells. Sadly, you can't do it the other way around.

Just, um, wow.

The Archivist seems very interesting.

Now, it would seem like this class is slightly overpowered(at least, those who would say that Cleric is too strong would say so), as it has 4+Int class skills, 2 good saves, and d6 HD, not to mention access to any Divine spell through copying(like a Wizard can do), but I really like the flavor of it, compared to Wizard.

Its almost exactly what I've been looking for for my Wizard/Loremaster, in fact, I'd go so far as to say that it would really pull my character into perfection in his abilities. I've been looking for something to use with him in Epic Levels, and this'll be it(especially since its always been his dream to own a Celestial Library, i.e. perfect). For the build, what's not to love? I'll already have a nearly unbeatable amount of Arcane spells, then with this, I'll be able to add a massive number of Divine spells as well. Pity "Collegiate Wizard" doesn't apply to Archivist, eh? :D

It looks like it can be turned pretty uber, but its my personal opinion that about any class can be made that way.

Damn it!!! just got home brimming with ideas now that my DM has givin me the comming up game info... brimming with (or drooling), the idea of a Archivist/Wizard - True Necromancer.... ONLY I CAN'T... *sob*

has anyone got any ideas for a 13th lvl build towards this idea... with out the dip to cleric. (also short of a house rule, he's a bastard for rules)

Hmm... Well, neither class really allows the ability to Turn Undead, so you'd probably need the 1 level dip.
