I was just wondering if an Archivist can memorize spells. so they do not have to cary them in their prayerbook. Via the wizard feat.

If yes, could they then take one of the spells as a signature spell (FPH).

Finally, in cases of memorization could/should they be considered arcane casters. Example Geometer.

Side Note:
Spell Thematics require Arcane caster level 1st could an Archivist take this kind of feat. Also, do you have to be first level or just have access to first level spells. thus a 2 fighter 1 wizard could take spell thematics but a 3 fighter/1 wizard could not due to him no having a feat at that level.

You have to have a level of wizard to take Spell Mastery. However, there's nothing saying that the mastered spells have to be on the wizard spell list. So you could take 1 level of wizard among your archivist levels, then take spell mastery for your archivist spells. This probably isn't worth losing a caster level, though.

It seems reasonable to allow archivists to take spell mastery without any wizard levels. On the other hand, archivists are already pretty potent without bending the rules. :smirk:

If you mean "spell mastery", then by the RAW, they can't, although as a personal call I'd see no reason not to allow it.

I don't know about this feat, so can't help

Finally, in cases of memorization could/should they be considered arcane casters. Example Geometer.No. They may memorise like a wizard, but they cast divine spells, so are not arcane casters. The themes of prestige classes is different enough to say no to

Regarding levels, 1st level of "class" generally means 1st level or higher (unless it says 1st level only). So the fighter 3/ wiz 1 could get the feat when he reaches 6th.

Hope that helps

Spell Mastery as it appears in the PHB is restricted to wizards, but then again, when it was printed, wizards were the only class with a spellbook. Since Archivists have all the same limitations, "Archival Memory" is a good feat to suggest to your DM.

This also has the same problems as a Wu Jen. The flavor of both Spell Mastery and Geometer should be covered by both, but try to prevent any broken combos.
