Archivist rules question. [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-06-06, 07:14 AM At any time, an archivist can also add spells found on scrolls containing divine spells to his prayerbook, but he must make any rolls and spend the time required (see Adding Spells to a Wizard's Spellbook on page 178 of the Player's Handbook). The archivist can learn and thus prepare nonclerical divine spells in this fashion but the two free spells he gains for advancing in class level must be selected from the cleric spell list.

So: Spending money on materials, pages et cetera or adding spells for free?
If I was only regarding the wording I'd say: no additional money, but it wouldn't be very logical nor balanced.

02-06-06, 09:05 AM I'm currently playing an Archivist, and he added spells to his prayerbook during our last gaming session...

When it says to refer to the PHB section on Wizards adding spells, we just assumed that meant play it according to those guidelines exactly... which includes page count, cost, etc...

What is that any spell on a divine spellcasters spelllist or any spell castable by a divine caster? my main concern are domain spells. could an archivist fx scribe a timestop into his spellbook if he somehow got access to a scroll of timestop scribed by a cleric with time domain?

You would still be able to cast it, but yes. Good luck finding a scroll, scribe, etc...and if you don't have a ****** DM he won't allow this blatant powerplay, but if you happen upon a powerful NPC or tell him that the head of your temple can teach him, etc, then go ahead. But that is an unlikely scenario.
