Thought it'd be a neat twist on the common idea since I could cast summoner monster/undead/natures ally since we're in an evil campaign. We start lvl 4 and I'm asking about suggested feats (an book location) as well as possible summoner prestige classes. I know augment summoning is a good place to start but I hate to waste a feat on focus conjuration.

For info the rest of our party is soon ur-priest, dread necromancer and a hired tank

Rapid Spell (CD) will speed up the casting time, so your summoned creatures can appear in the round you cast.

Beckon the Frozen (FB) will add the cold subtype and give them some extra cold damage.

Imbued Summoning (PHBII) will allow you to summon creatures with a low-level buff already in place.

The only exclusively summoner PrC I can think of is the Alienist from CA.

There's a Truenamer-related PrC in ToM that allows you gain extra abilities from summoning and binding fiends by learning their Truenames. I think it's Arcane-based, though, so it might need some adapting for an Archivist. Still, cool idea!

The fiendbinder is arcane based, but there is the Brimstone Speaker which can summon three different celestials via Truespeech and is a divine caster.

That's a shame, since thematically, an Archivist/Fiendbinder would be really cool.

For prestige class, have you considered looking no further than the DMG and being a thaumaturgist?

I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned the THAUMATURGIST fromt he DMG. I would think it perfect for an Archivist.

I think you're out of luck there; that'd be a violation of the CoC.

If you can't afford the books, you're really stuck borrowing from your friends. If your friends don't have it, you'd probably have trouble convincing the DM to let you use it anyway.
