| testament02-23-06, 05:35 PM | I was reading through the Heroes of Horror book, and noticed the Archivist base class. It looked interesting, kind of a mixture between the cleric and wizard. I was just wondering if anyone could share some of there experiences with them. Do they suck...are they powerful...etc? Thanks. |
| Tevin Illithane02-23-06, 05:40 PM | Well, I haven't been able to put my character into play yet, but just from what I've done building him, I'm looking very forward to it. I find the class very versatile, and I'm sure that anyone who's had fun making an archer cleric will immediately find several ways to make that build increasingly dangerous with one. |
| Crimson_Concerto02-23-06, 08:52 PM | I love the Archivist's occultic flavor, and they can be pretty fun to play. The general concencus on their balance is thta they are on the powerful side, but if your DM has some sense, a lot of the cheezy stuff can be avoided easily. There is also the concern of Dread Secret, as it doesn't allow any sort of save and the DC to do it is very easy by the time you have the option. It's not THAT big a problem, imo, but some people think it's a bit too powerful. However, all-in-all it's a great class with cool flavor, and you should have some fun playing one. :) |

| Darkwolf_childe02-23-06, 10:37 PM | I find it a great class. I've played it a little and it goes well with wizards and clerics as a go-between if the clerics aren't being snotty. It's useful to have those knowledge abilities if your party is relatively inexperienced. |

Because they have the potential to learn any divine spell on any spelllist, a lot of which are unique, at reduced level, are usually arcane, or any combination of those. The archivist thus has the ability to learn pretty much every spell in the game, and often at its lowest possible level. Now, it can't do any Divine Metamagic lunacy or Wildshape, but just from spells, it's up there with C.o.D.zilla. |

Because they have to hunt down those spells, after all. |
