But I've always thought that The Wizard was the bookish, learned, scholarly class. But look at the Archivist, which not only receives more skill points for knowledge skills, but also gets to apply that knowledge to their teammates for bonuses. That seems to make the archivists a better representation of the "scholar" role, right? |

It's possible, but it's certainly counterintuitive relative to the "Elan" stereotype of the bard as being lighthearted and slightly silly compared to dour, scholarly classes like wizard, cleric, or archivist. |

I think the reason they get more knowledge bonuses is that wizards learn through research and experimentation (which doesn't always produce expected results), whilst Archivists are more likely to "aquire" their information from other sources, be they willing to relinquish it or otherwise... |

Well... it really depends. After all, Rogues are variable; you can have the sneak rogue, the social rogue, the acrobat rogue, etc. So you could have the scholar bard as well as the stereotypical minstrel bard. Another point for bards being more scholarly, or at least more learn-ed, is their "langauges are a class skill" aspect. Yeah, Archivists are great... I wonder if that'd be balanced... But still, I like the archivist a lot as is. :) |
