Since it illustrates all of my questions, I think I'll ask the question about the spell Protection from Energy: Protection from Energy is a second level ranger spell, a 3rd level sorceror/wizard spell, and a 3rd level cleric spell.

1. Let's say an archivist wants to copy the spell from his wizard friend. To the wizard, it's an arcane spell, whereas to the archivist, it's a divine spell. Can the archivist still copy the spell, or does he have to get a special "divine" version of it?

2. If the archivist does get a scroll of Protection from Energy, and can get spells from divine caster lists other than clerics, can he have this as a 2nd level spell, like a ranger? Or as a 3rd level spell, like a cleric? Can he have both? If so, does it require seperate spellbook entries, or can he just prepare it as either second or third level, based on a single spellbook entry?

In general, the archivist needs to find divine scrolls of whatever spells he's looking for. Thus, in your example, he would need to get a cleric (most likely) or ranger to scribe Protection from Energy for him before he could learn it.

By the rules, it's not entirely clear. Personally, I would rule that if the spell appears on the cleric spell list, he needs to take the "clerical version", but that's just me. :)
