| Braids05-31-05, 01:30 AM | I've been working on a new Dwarven character based slightly around shield fighting and I was wondering two things. a) If I am using a Dwarven Scout that carries a Heavy Shield, would I lose the enhancement bonus to speed? Since a dwarf keeps its base land speed while wearing heavy armor I got confused. b) Can I make a shield slam my primary attack? |

| HappyDragon06-01-05, 02:46 AM | Alright, I'll take a shot at this.....but I do warn you I'm still learning the rules myself so this may not be perfect. 1. I would say you keep the Scout's speed enhancement AS LONG as you are not carrying a Medium or Heavy load even with your character being a Dwarf, but if you go over the weight max. for a light load, I would say you lose it. As far as I know a Heavy Shield is not considered medium or heavy armour so in that regards you should be fine. Also from the PHB pg# 122...."Shield: Sheilds do not affect a characters speed". 2. Shield Slam......Not sure what the question is. If you want to use it as your primary attack, go ahead.....or is it in reference to a Shield Bash being an off-handed weapon atttack? :twocents: :tiphat: |
| Quirriff06-01-05, 03:14 AM | A dwarf always moves at 20 feet, unless the dwarf is wearing SUPER HEAVY MEGA PLATE. |
| Greyman06-01-05, 03:51 AM | Quirriff, Braids is refering to the Scout base class from the Complete Adventurer. The Scout class grants a +10' enhancement bonus to speed at level 4, as long as the Scout is not wearing medium or heavy armor nor carrying a light load. Braids, a heavy shield does not count as either light nor heavy armor. It does have a weight, but as long as she doesn't go over her light load limit the dwarf Scout will be traveling at 30 feet per move. |
