The Armored Mage alternative class from the Complete Mage (pg 32) is explained, but not very well. Ive been reading the same paragraph for a month now and i still can't get heads or tails of it. Anybody?

Which paragraph?

I though it was pretty simple: You take a level or fighter. You give up proficiency in medium and heavy armor, and tower shields IIRC, and you get to ignore ASF of light armor. What did I miss?

Maybe I am reading to much into it.

So later after taking a lvl of Armored Mage you would take a lvl in what arcane spellcaster you choose to gain spells?

I thought the alternative class implied you obtained some kind of spells, while keeping your weapon proficiencies simlar to the stalwart sorceror alternative class.

It is a bit vague. I prefer the "Spell using fighter"

Right. It doesnt let you cast spells.
It helps you only when and if you have the ability to cast from another source.
