Artificer familiar idea [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-13-08, 02:19 AM So one of my friends is going to be an artificer and he was wondering that instead of having a homunculi at level 4 if it was possible to have a familiar that had the effigy creature template on it. Artificer level would = caster level for determining the abilities of the familiar of course.

My question is would the be over powered or would it be underpowered or just right?

03-13-08, 06:24 AM Warforged have a Sub level that grants an Item Familiar. But just granting an ordinary Familiar the Effigy template will be a little much. Just think about an Effigy Imp for a minute. Now give it UMD with maxed ranks. Now give it an Artificer for a master. Now kiss every encounter goodbye, seeing as you just gave one of the Power 5 dual-actions/round.
