Can someone explain to me why the artificer is thought to be really powerful? Can someone provide some examples to illustrate this. Alternatively, if you disagree please state why. Thanks all!

go to the character optimization board and scroll through for the Artificer Optimized Thread.

With 3 levels of Cannith Wand Adept, an Artificer can take a pair of Wands of Lesser Acid Orb, level 10, and do something like 60d6 x 4 dmg a round. Granted, that's only in one encounter per day, although there was talk of somehow making such ungodly dmg Persistent.

I think 240d6 dmg, no save, no SR, in one round is pretty powerful, yes? Key feats are Quicken, Twin Spell, Energy Admixture, Repeat Spell. Quicken lets you use each wand once as a free action. Cannith Wand adept lets you blow charges to use two wands a round (Dual Wand Wielder is actually better, but requires TWF), and adds 3 caster levels and +2DC. Wand Mastery gives another 2 levels and DC.

Use Item infusion to give your wands the above 4 feats. You now have 15d6 Orbs, Twinned, Repeating, and Admixtured (Acid or Sonic, probably), for 60d6 of dmg per shot, 240 d6 per round, or about 840 dmg. No save, no SR.

Repeat with any other wand at your convenience. A wand of fireballs, 5th level, is level 10 in your hands and you are tossing 80d6 worth of them every round...

besides that,
1. the ability to "cast" any spell from all core PC lists
2. class gives pretty much all item creation feats
3. at a certain level, no longer has to use his own xp for item creation
4. can use almost every magic item

That "certain level" where he no longer has to use his own xp for item creation? Yeah, that's 1st. He gets a craft reserve, something no one else gets, to create magical items. I'm playing one right now. I just got one of his iconic abilities; 5th level, Retain Essence. Take magical items we don't need. Absorb their magic to gain the xp used to make them into my craft reserve. If we ever got some downtime, even just enough for me to make a homunculus that can do my item creation for me, I'll see just how fun they can be.

You sold me. I want to make an Artificer/Battlesmith. Or Runesmith. Maybe both?
