Hi All

I noticed some threads on here ages ago (when search was working, maybe it is now...but I can't find it) that referred to artificers and some other home brew classes relating to technology (techno something...science something).

Can anyone point me in the direction of those threads or even better the people that started them etc.

Regards

The Artificer is in the Eberron Campaign Setting book.

And there should also be a gnomish inventor (or the like) PrC in Forgotten Realms, but don't know in which book.

You may want to check the CLASSES COMPENDIUM threads.

Newer artificers suck. The first time (I cant remember in which book I beleive it was an FR one) I saw one it owned so bad. The new ones are useless.

The artificer in eberron is a bit lame. I am after the threads that were in here some time ago about Gnome artificers and the like (this PRC was from magic of faerun).

The gnome artificer kicked arse, all other artificers blow...except the stuff I saw in the thread I mentioned previously.

You guys are kidding, right? Eirther that, or you've never actually tried to play a MaoF Gnome Artificer.

I have... currently playing a 5th level Gnome Artificer, and it really BLOWS! I would *never* recommend anyone to take this PrC. Essentially, the only thing you gain is the ability to make cheaper, low-level "wands". You get *nothing* else.

The Eberron artificer may be lame. Dunno, haven 't looked at that one yet. But it couldn't possible suck any harder than the Magic of Faerun version!

Hmmm I have re-evaluated my position on the lamness of the artificer. I decree that the Eberron artificer is no longer lame, I am playing one and it is actually quite good.

Gnome Artificers from Magic of Faerun have now been judged and having been found sorely lacking in many areas have been banned from mention on this thread.

Unfortunately with the change to the boards, that link to my Inventor class no longer works. But that's okay, because I've got version 2.0 on the boards now and it's much better.

It can be found here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=297060).

Hope it's of use. :)

The ebberon artificer is actually a very nice class. Very limited buffing capability, and mediocre fighting potential, but gaining every Craft feat, and being able to meet all the prereq's for crafting items through the use of Use Magic Device skill is very nice. At higher levels has the potential to be a decent class through the sheer ammount of magic items. Not a calss to be multiclassed tho.

In/upon itself though it is a somewhat weak class, but its true potential is in a party setting. The ammount of versitility it adds to a party is huge. Crafting Homunculus to help with party, Buffing party memebers/healing warforged, Creating items for party members, etc. I really appreciate the fact that it renforces the idea of a "party" and working together. This I find is often lost with people trying to create the ultimately powerful self reliant character, when in actuality no one plays this game to do things solo.

As to the other class that was similiar that was pretty nice was a Gondsman from faiths and patheons, FR setting.

Your referring to the Techsmith...that class does also rock a bit, I would like to work out a PRC that is similar to the Techsmith and is useable by the Artificer.

I will vouch for Dave's class. :)

The gnome artificer isnt really lame, you just need to know how to play it and have a DM that allows creativity. Yes a wizard can do all of the things a gnome artificer can do, but what fun is having just a simple wizard. In my campaign the island of Lantan is one of the most incredible places in the realms.

All in all the artificer, in any realm, is a pretty decent class that can add flavor to your game. If you're just looking for power, view the artificer as a detour sign that says go around.

Just my take on it, if not liked then well..I'll cut it short there.

The new artificer is probably the most versatile class i've ever seen, and REALLY powerful.

Take a look here. (http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=287275&origin=)

Doubt they're like the techsmith (haven't seen the PRC yet) but I play a Artificer, and I've created two PRC's for it. But they're geared toward the learning of Steam-tech and combining it with the artificer's ability to craft magic items. I used the Steam & Steel: Guide to Fantasy Steamworks that I bought from RPGnow to handle the technological part. I posted one of the two PRCs I made in the Prestige Class section on the board.
