| TheDarkPrince02-13-08, 01:48 AM | Want to make an Altair type assassin. If anyone has played the game, then I'd like some advice on how to make a similar character. Part of my campaign is in the city, during a war (which worked out well for the whole Altair part). After playing assassin's creed, i got the idea to include a politically neutral assassin, who is trying to end the war by eliminating key individuals. Don't worry too much about character level, I can adjust it later. Although I'd like nothing higher than 15th level. I'm think rogue/ranger, with assassin thrown in for a death attack (although its not necessary, I might just make a DMnpc for the death attack). Thanks, Cheers! :D |
| Ariath Ska'Vhor02-13-08, 04:05 AM | I made a ToB class inspired by Assassin's Creed. Here it is (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62659). |
| Krusk02-13-08, 08:40 AM | ninja 15. When altair jumps into a sac of hay and suddenly no one knows where he went? ki invis. or rogue 15, altair dosn't actually turn invis, so this seems like a good non ki using substitute. It could also tell you how he is able to feint in combat and then get one hit kills. |
| 1 ton ghost02-13-08, 12:08 PM | there won't be a 100% conversion between RPGs and video games, but i can see where this is going. -you mentioned rogue/ranger. stress Urban variety (Unearthed Arcana) if you must, though Altair is largely rogue based i'm guessing -Rooftop feats, etc. (Cityscape). plenty in that book for urban wetwork that should suit your fancy -push Tumbling as high as you can -push Sleight of Hand, Quick Draw maybe. Sudden Strike and Hidden Blade (skill tricks in CompScoundrel) woudl definetely fit the bill too, though i'm unsure as to what to call that retractable wrist-stilleto thing |
| OneWinged4ngel02-13-08, 12:39 PM | Want to make an Altair type assassin. If anyone has played the game, then I'd like some advice on how to make a similar character. Try Swordsage. |
| The_Shaman02-13-08, 04:42 PM | I'd probably go with the classics: rogue all the way. |
| Hanzo18702-13-08, 06:04 PM | I'd say Rogue 10/Avenger 10 as a baseline (the Avenger PrC WotC showed was dressed in white. Nice coincidence.), but you'd have to get rid of Poison Use (the historical Hashshashin were forbidden from using poison). You should also consider the Hidden Sleeve Blade from Complete Scoundrel. Maybe make a class feature taking out the attack penalty and whatnot. And perhaps switch out the poison save bonus for Skill Tricks. I'm not totally sure, but many of the Skill Tricks would be very useful to a guy like Altair. |
| rivaltuna02-13-08, 07:18 PM | I actually just made my character based on this. His stats are as followed Level 11 Rouge 4, Fighter 3, Assassin 4. (in that order, rouge for skill points, fighter for feats and attack bonus, etc) Str-16 Dex-20 Con-14 Int-16 Wis-12 Cha-10 Feats Weapon focus. throwing dagger, long sword, and crossbow. Greater weapon focus (longsword), sniper shot. all the feats in between. I treated his hidden weapon as just a dagger, and all his weapons are +2. It works really really well. |
| tenguroEd02-13-08, 07:25 PM | What book is the Avenger in? and Altair fighting style seems kind of like a swashbuckler, I'm probly gonna get shunned for saying this though. I agree with the urban Ranger Variant, and the rogue. |
| Obsidianjaerc02-13-08, 07:43 PM | Rouge 5/Swordsage 10 |

I agree with the urban Ranger Variant, and the rogue. Well, I always imagined that rogues and swashies look similarly when they fight (face-to-face, that is); swashies are just better trained to do it so they do it as well as higher-level rogues. Anyway, you can always have your cake and eat it - make it a daring outlaw, swashie 4/rogue 16, for example. This nets you 10d6 sneak attack, most rogue abilities, some of the better swashbuckler abilities, etc... |

It works really really well.Considering how often he completely fails his diplomacy checks with guild leaders and how slow he is to catch onto the intrigue, I'd drop his Wis and Cha a bit. Probably to 9-10 and 6-7, respectively. |

| RadicalTaoist02-14-08, 12:52 AM | *chuckles* Glad I made that demotivator (it's originally from the Psionic Demotivators thread). That said, consider mine another vote for swordsage. He's got so many matches to that class it's not funny. The Tiger Claw leaping death strikes, high AC despite low armor, Setting Sun counters and mild throws, Sense Motive as a class skill, Diamond Mind mobility, Sudden Leap + Leaping Dragon Stance, arguably Shadow Hand's Dance of the Spider...it just keeps going. |
| Slaunyeh02-14-08, 07:39 AM | Personally, I'm fond of Ninja/Invisible Blade. Add assassin to taste. |
| 1 ton ghost02-14-08, 12:20 PM | Lurk (complete psionic...no matter how bad that book may be) http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii85/xerjesterx/Lurks.jpg outsanding. though i despise psionics and wouldn't claim Altair is one, this is brilliant if not humorous in the extreme. nj. |
| StruckingFuggle02-14-08, 12:45 PM | >_> <_< "Ninja Spy". Also, That said, consider mine another vote for swordsage. He's got so many matches to that class it's not funny. So, which is the maneuver that lets me stick someone in the neck only to have them soliloquize for a good five minutes? :P |

You made that? Oh crap, I was giving the poster credit for making it sorry. |
| defender_of_odintyr02-14-08, 04:22 PM | I've only played a little Assassin's Creed. All I have to say is Skill Focus Jump and Skill focus Climb. |
| SmartPaladin02-14-08, 05:07 PM | I actually just made my character based on this. His stats are as followed Level 11 Rouge 4, Fighter 3, Assassin 4. I'd honestly change the Longsword to a Scimitar, myself. Or you could just call the sword a Saber and continue treating it as a Longsword, seeing as how they both deal the same amount of damage. |
| Xerj02-15-08, 02:00 AM | You made that? Oh crap, I was giving the poster credit for making it sorry. No, not mine. Apologies to RadicalTaoist if I made it seem so. |

Going to have to agree with OneWinged4ngel and RadicalTaoist on this one. Definitely a swordsage. I'm also going to have to commend the latter on that awesome de-motivator. |
| Naderion02-15-08, 06:21 AM | There has to be some mind clouding magic involved. How else do you wan't to work unnoticed in a shiny bright white robe.? :D |
| RadicalTaoist02-15-08, 11:46 AM | So, which is the maneuver that lets me stick someone in the neck only to have them soliloquize for a good five minutes? :P It's called DM Ex Machina and it's among the most powerful abilities in the game. ;) No, not mine. Apologies to RadicalTaoist if I made it seem so. lol, I didn't make them so no one would use 'em. You weren't taking any credit; it's fine. |
| TheDarkPrince02-15-08, 04:53 PM | I think swordsage sounds good then. Any PrC's? Or just plain swordsage?? Thanks, Cheers! :D |
| ultimate_tracker02-15-08, 08:18 PM | might be a little late to put my input here but if your playing completely in city there is a really good one called the urban soul |
| Obsidianjaerc02-15-08, 08:22 PM | Going to have to agree with OneWinged4ngel and RadicalTaoist on this one. But not me? You make baby Jaerc, cry. :weep: |
| Mad_Jack02-15-08, 09:01 PM | Well, the Assassin character isn't so much a rogue as he is a stealthy combat-centered character. Swordsage covers most of the rogue skill list and gets almost as many points - you can also get a 2d6 sneak attack with the right stance, which would stack with your SA from any rogue levels. And even your non-swordsage levels still count as half-levels when determining which level of maneuvers you're eligible to take. Cherry-pick your stances and boosts carefully and you can probably nail his style pretty close. For a major stealth guy, go Rogue 3/Swordsage ?/Assassin, with maybe a couple levels of swashbuckler if you want the extra BAB... Swashbuckler/swordsage/assassin borders on serious Manga territory... |
| Endarrion02-15-08, 10:11 PM | Fighter 3 Who takes odd levels of fighter? Another vote for swordsage here. |
| KAZZ_DRAGON_GOD03-11-08, 03:14 AM | I've been trying to figure out how to duplicate Altair as well..............after reading a few posts, i think that Ninja3/Fighter2/Swordsage2 then start adding lvls in each until you meet the skill and feat requirements for Iaijutsu Master from Oriental Adventure Campaign Setting. I would ask the DM to allow you to modify the weapon benefits from IA (katana only) to your Martial weapons from your Shadow Hand list. Improved Init; Quick Draw; and Weapon Focus (katana), Shadow Hand weapons Iaijutsu Focus 9 Rank (OA) BAB +6 lawful this is only an idea, and I will tweek with it and keep you posted if you'll do the same........................:thinks: |
| Lawkeeper03-11-08, 07:59 AM | Get your DM to apply Kung-Fu Genius to the swordsage. Then, factotum3/barbarian1/swordsage11 or any other mix in those eleven levels. Gives you IntMod on all Dex&Str checks, with speed-boost from the barbarian, for a very mobile warrior, very much like in video games. If not, rogue3/factotum3/swashbuckler9, with Daring Outlaw to get a +6d6 sneak attack. Would work better with an enhanced swashbuckler - I think there're a few of them somewhere. One level of barbarian (UA variant for favored enemy instead of rage) instead of one of swashbuckler works better if the build is for 15th ECL max. Just my two cents... |
| KAZZ_DRAGON_GOD03-19-08, 08:41 PM | Where can I find the stats on Factotum, I haven't seen it in any books, nor errata............GUIDANCE PLS:confused: |
| Sinfire Titan03-19-08, 08:53 PM | Where can I find the stats on Factotum, I haven't seen it in any books, nor errata............GUIDANCE PLS:confused: Dungeonscape. |
