In Astrology there are 12 archetypes each corresponding to the 12 signs of the zodiac. In the player´s handbook there are 11 classes. So there is one missing that would belong to the 12th zodiac sign. The following is how I match up the classes to the zodiac and what the 12th class would be like. I have been doing astrology for 25 years.

Aries - Warrior
Taurus - ???
Gemini - Wizard
Cancer - Cleric
Leo - Paladin
Virgo - Monk
Libra - Bard
Scorpio - Druid
Sagittarius - Ranger
Capricorn - Barbarian
Aquarius - Sorcerer
Pisces - Rogue

Taurus needs a character that is strong, stubborn, quiet, simple, practical, works with horses and bulls, uses hand to hand combat weapons.
The closest idea I have is someone like a cowboy or cowgirl. They are strong, know the history and geography of their local, they are practical, they don´t want a lot of riches but they will help guide you into the mountains and protect you. They use a lassoo very effectively to subdue wild horses and opponents. They are very skilled in bow and arrow and have great survival skills in their locale. They are of the earth and fit the standard for Taurus.
I would recommend a twelth class for the game using a cowboy as the model.

Knight? Fails a bit on practical in many ways, though.

Hmm. When you said 'Warrior' for Aries, did you mean Fighter? 'Cause if not, there's always Fighter.

I second the Knight, seems to work. Although if you don't have PHBII, won't work out so well, huh? I think he's looking for a homebrewed class.

Libra is balance - shouldn't that be druid?

Taurus sounds a lot like ranger or monk btw. Why not either of the two, and put another class in their place?

What are the typical traits of virgo and sagittarius? I was never much for astrology.

They're also based on the elements. For instance, Capricorn (me) is an earth sign, and Aquarius (my brother) is obviously a water sign. If anything, Capricorn is not a barbarian.

Earth is for stability and strength, though sometimes stubborn, and it is sometimes grounded to a fault, in that its strong beliefs are wrong yet so strong that they do not allow change. I'd say Capricorn is more a monk.

Barbarians work better for fire signs, known for their passion and intensity, though sometimes consumed by its own flames (rage, love, hate, faith, sadness, etc.). Regardless of the emotion, none experience it like fire does. Barbarian's rage would be unparalelled in fire, which is why I think a fire sign is best suited for it.

Water works well as a healer and a nurturer, and is known for its adaptability, though sometimes it never takes stands for itself.

Air is known for its freedom, versatility and mysterious nature. Being nearest in form and proximity to the heavens, it is sometimes loses order and sanity due to its extreme high-mindedness. Air should be the most magical.

Anyway, there's some trifling guidance. I think Capricorn is a better Monk.

For the missing twelfth in general, how about Healer? Nice base class. Virgo might make a good healer.

Marshall could also work as 12th, representing those that, while not very strong themselves, work best to inspire others. Anyway, I am a taurus, and I've heard we are supposed to be among the most calm and down-to-earth signs (also practical, but I find that quality rather elusive in myself). Ranger, scout, monk, those sound good imo.

There are three signs each to an element.

Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Wind: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Heart: GO PLANET!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Actually, Aquarius is an air sign...

Edit: I see you've figured this out yourself

So I've come to remember, whoops. Been a long while, and I never really studied astrology, just enjoyed it for the mythological ties and abstract meanings.

In this case I would put something else for sagittarius, and shift ranger to Taurus. I don't really see a reason to tie rangers with fire, really...

Are we going to include the 13th sign in? I really liked that story.

This is where things go awry. Sagittarius was in myth the wisest, noblest and most sober-minded of his race, which was known for barbarism and lewdness. He would make the best cleric based on the mythology, but the lack of depth and one-very-intense-emotion-at-a-time lifestyle fire signs are known for would make him a poor one, living by emotions and not faith. The element or the mythological backstory?

On the other hand, sometimes they coincide. Aries was the god of war and is a fire sign. He may make the best Fighter, perhaps Leo the best Barbarian, or vice versa. If one goes with the elements, the final fire should be a sorcerer: fire with a bit of air. Sagittarius would fit nicely.

Where is all this from, anyway? It would be easier for us to help if we know what source you are using.

Mostly from what I've read before today. Sagittarius is a mythological figure, you can look up his myths most anywhere. Same with astrology and elemental spiritual concepts.

I've also spent the time between my last post and this to check Wikipedia. They have some good entries on the elements of the zodiac, as well as the zodiac in general.

Earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_sign) - Fire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_sign) - Air (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_sign) - Water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_sign)

Also, for mythology you can try Wikipedia again, or the Encyclopaedia Mythica (http://www.pantheon.org/).

I make a motion to make commoner or adept as the last class. :)

Bards do the same thing, y'know. :P
The_Shaman

Definitely, but we already have bards. Plus, bards do a lot of things - including boosting, marshals specialize in it.

I laughed soooooo hard when I read this. Sigged.

I think you should first associate the alignment restricted classes and use that.

Bards are free spirits (chaotic), monks are disciplined (lawful), barbarians are impulsive (highly chaotic) and paladins are righteous (lawful good). I think Barbarian should be Taurus, as the bull represent recklesness, boldness and strenght.

This is how i see it:

Aries - Warrior
Taurus - Barbarian
Gemini - Wizard
Cancer - Sorcerer
Leo - Paladin
Virgo -
Libra - Monk
Scorpio - Rogue
Sagittarius - Cleric
Capricorn - Ranger
Aquarius - Druid
Pisces - Bard

Knight is Leo because of the mission and grandeur of the adventure.
Eternal_bee

07-24-07, 12:44 PM
Bardo is Libra because of music, song, poetry and high level of communication. Druid is more solitary like scorpio.
Eternal_bee

07-24-07, 12:48 PM
Capricorn is barbarian for three main reasons, one is the search for a position in society, two is the fury which is common in a frustrated capricorn, and three is the conquering aspect of the barbarian.

Marhall could be a good class for taurus if the taurus is more legally minded.

Ranger ties to fire because of the exploring new territories trait. That is not earthy like a taurus which tends to not explore but rather study its own territory.
The_Shaman

07-24-07, 01:01 PM
A ranger doesn't have to explore new territory, and afaik they don't have a trait about it other than knowledge (geography) as a class skill. If anything, I think most are actually fairly consistent in keeping to their personal stomping grounds, when possible. Exploring would be more the province of the scout, imo. Perhaps you are thinking along the lines of ranger being tied to the Horizon Walker PrC, or something?
Eternal_bee

07-24-07, 01:09 PM
shaman, you make a good point. if ranger doesn't explore new territory than it is limited in expressing sagittarius. In spanish, (I live in Chile and play in spanish), ranger translates as explorador, explorer, in the spanish version of the players handbook. Maybe this is a bad translation if ranger really isn't an explorer.

Do you have just said ranger?

-------------------

I would not straigh-jacket them to one class but a set of classes. Indeed I would define the stronger stats of each horoscope.

Aries - high Constitution little wisdom.
Taurus - high strength and constitution, low inteligence
Gemini - Dexterous and Inteligent.
Cancer -
Leo - Strength and Charisma. Null wisdom and inteligence.
Virgo -
Libra -
Scorpio -
Sagittarius -
Capricorn -
Aquarius -
Pisces - High Inteligence null perception (wisdom).

Taurus is more like someone who competes in rodeo. Bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing, cow wrestling. Then add in the traits of the strong silent type of cowboy. Cowboys would rather ride the range instead of conquer other people like the barbarians. Cowboys are more domestic than rangers and maybe more socially aware of business and striking a good deal like a good horse trader. These are traits of tuarus that link to a cowboy type.
