| Enaloindir09-13-07, 10:31 AM | Hello all, In an attempt to incorporate some 4E principles in my current 3.5E game (how original ;)), I would like to ask you for some advice. I want to grant the wizard, sorcerer, warmage, and beguiler some at will spell-like abilities, similar to some of the reserve feats. However, I'm currently stuck for ideas, as I don't want to simply copy the reserve feats. Here's what I currently have: Wizard/Sorcerer: Arcane Blast: Ranged touch attack with 30' range, dealing 1d6 damage at 1st level + 1d6 per 2 caster levels above 1st (2d6 @ 3rd, 3d6 @ 5th, ...), to a maximum of 9d6 at 17th level. -> While this seems a simple ability, I fear it might step on the toes of the Warlock Translocation: Move a target within 30', 5' in any direction unless a Will save is made (DC 11+Int/Cha+1 per 2 caster levels above 1st). -> Might change this to requiring a Fortitude save similar to the effects of strong wind. -> This seems similar to the Hurricane Breath reserve feat Warmage: Arcane Blast: Ranged touch attack with 30' range, dealing 1d6 damage at 1st level + 1d6 per 2 caster levels above 1st (2d6 @ 3rd, 3d6 @ 5th, ...), to a maximum of 9d6 at 17th level. -> While this seems a simple ability, I fear it might step on the toes of the Warlock Fiery Burst: 5' radius burst with a range of 30', dealing 1d6 fire damage + 1d6 per 2 caster levels above 1st, Reflex save for half damage -> Very similar to one of the reserve feats Beguiler Distraction: Force target within 30' to make successful Will save or be considered flanked until the first attack made against it, or the start of your next turn. -> Seems ok to me, but I fear this ability will only be useful at low levels (unless a rogue is available to deal significant sneak attack damage). Do you have any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance, Enaloindir |

Just give them bonus reserve feats and change the name if you like I know the reserve feats are an option. However, these feats only start providing benefits at level 3 at the earliest. In addition, the reserve feats provide supernatural abilities, while I would like the special abilities to be spell-like. Finally, I would like the abilities to be different from the reserve feats to provide the spellcasters with additional options. :) Enaloindir |

Let the players choose from a few Reserve feats you've selected for that class. Make reserve feats spell-like abilities Make them available at level 1. |
