Athletic class/prestige class? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Here's the deal, I'm making a Thri-keen character and my concept is that he's fast and uses his jumping ability and general mobility for melee combat. What class(es)/PrC's should I be looking at? I want to be as un-mystical as possible and don't like unarmed combat or raging so I'd rather not go monk or barbarian; what I'm really looking for is a way to increase base speed/jumping ability and/or gain athletic feats/abilities without losing too much as a fighter. 08-18-07, 02:09 PM An option you might want to consider exploring is the Dervish prestige class on page 26 of the Complete Warrior. The class offers enhanced movement speed, skill mastery with jump, tumble, and perform (dance), combat bonuses when dual wielding slashing weapons (they even treat scimitars as light, finessable weapons), and the Dervish Dance, which allows you to wade through enemies making full attacks and moving at the same time. Since the class moves around alot, you'll find that the Complete Adventurer's Scout base class compliments it EXTRAODINARILY well.

However, since Dervish has a base attack bonus requirement, you may want to multiclass Scout with a more martial (but also focused on light combat) class. Swashbuckler (Complete Warrior) can offer you an edge on Weapon Finesse, Ranger can offer you a jump start on dual wielding, and Fighter is just easily adapable in general.

Ranger/Scout also has the added benefit of being able to take the Swift Hunter feat from The Complete Scoundrel. When using Swift Hunter, you'll be able to stack Ranger and Scout levels for determining the strength of your Skirmish ability, as well as for the Ranger's favored enemies.

Even MORE nice for Swift Hunter, Skirmish damage can apply to creatures normally immune to critical hits if you have them as one of your ranger favored enemies.

Oh, and it's worth noting that Scout also offers its own Fast Movement power which will stack nicely with the one on the Dervish.
