I am fully prepared to get flamed for this, Warblade or Swordsage?

Given those two options, warblade. Auron was too tankish to be a swordsage.

Agreed -- definitely a warblade. Iron Heart and Stone Dragon are perfect for his style.

I say Warblade, because Swordsage isn't very good.

I'd always thought of him as more of a Hexblade, I mean most of his special attacks with his section of the sphere grid seem to fit the Hexblades cursing abilities.

Warblade, or perhaps even crusader. I can see him wearing heavier armors than most warblades, although it could be that he just has a level or two of fighter ;) . Conversely, it could be a PrC. He doesn't strike me as very spiritual, but for some reason I can imagine him as a sacred templar - tough both physically and mentally, very skilled with his weapon, and able to deliver devastating blows from time to time. The minor spellcasting fills in the niches.

Greatsword+what amounts to medium armor at most, thats a warblade. Id say specializing in the iron heart or diamond mind schools with a splash of stone dragon.

yes i agree, Auron doesn't really wear heavy armor (or any at all actually). I also agree givbing him levels in Hexblade, for banishing blade and such.

Gestault Warblade//Hexblade would probably be the best fit with a few custom feats/maneuvers to cover his Overdrives.

He couldnt have been a hexblade, he was definitely good in alignment. Maybe warblade/duskblade or warblade/cleric or favored soul?

Whoa, lemme stop the fire before it starts, I was just asking if Auron was more suited for Warblade or Swordsage, nothing more. While I appreciate the opinion of others, the last thing I want this thread to turn into is one big argument.

I got my answer, thank you.

Through FFX he seems to be more of Lawful Neutral rather than one good or evil and at several points it seems more like he's being dragged along with the party. His personality seems to fit the hexblade though and when combined with either the Swordsage or Warblade he seems to come out very well and fitting to the character if you follow his primary path in the game.

Your question started the thoughts of trying to figure Auron's stats out and so far it isn't an argument.

I would just point out that he definately had some levels of Drunken Master in there. He always carries that jug of alchohol, and he uses it in some of his LBs.

I would also like to point out that Auron is a Ronin. He lost his master and thus penalises himself somewhat by keeping one arm in a sling at most times.

Auron may also have a bottle of drink, but he's not a drunkard. Its a spiritaul thing, he never seems to actually drink it, just uses it as a focus for his Limit Breaks. Perhaps a custom item/drink that when spat on a weapon, provides a buff for a round or two.

Auron is definately not a drunken master, it just doesn't fit him and his personality.

He's the dark and quiet mentor type, just not the nice kind, more of the toss you headlong into the problem and hope you come out alive, and he is someone who is pretty darn hard to rattle.

As for the arms, I think I remember him using both at various times. He just frees one for ease of use

Yeah, he uses his spare arm for fights, but its in a sling most of the time as a reminder to his master. Like tying a knot in your tie as a reminder to something.

Have you ever seen a Swordsage in action? Obviously not from this statement. I've seen a 6th level swordsage solo giants with ECLs upwards of 16! Explain to me how that 'isn't very good'

Please show me the stats of that sword sage and the ECL 16 gaint he dropped solo..

Swordsage: This class is more like a monk. It has 3/4 BAB, while the others have full. They have the best access to manuvers readied and known, and don't have any stupid rules like the Crusader's randomness to hamper them. Unfortunately, while the other classes can regain manuvers extremely quickly, the swordsage has to spend a full-round action to regain ONE manuver. As such, if a swordsage actually has to do that during combat, he's screwed.

Swordsages have the oddity of a monk-like wisdom to AC, but only when they're wearing light armor. Not "light armor or lighter", but ONLY light armor. Their main ability appears to be Discipline Focus: they eventually get a free weapon focus, wisdom to damage when you use a strike from a specific discipline (of which they have 6), or +2 saves whenever they use a stance of a specific discipline. They also get a small bonus to initiative checks, 50% chance of a successful identify at will on weapons and armor, Evasion and Improved Evasion at way too high levels (9&17), and the ability to use two manuvers at once at level 20... but noone really cares about level 20 abilities.

Overall, the Swordsage is definately better than the crusader. Unfortunately, if he can't take his enemy down fast with whatever combos he has, he's going to be out of luck trying to regain them.
Overall, it seems like the swordsage's biggest weakness is that his abilities don't scale, and he quite simply doesn't get enough ability trade-ins.

I thought the sword sage regained ALL his manuvers with a full round meditation, same as a warblade gets them all back with a single melee attack.

Huh.

Well... most combats don't last more than 6 or 7 rounds; by 5th level, you can easily have enough maneuvers that regaining them is simply not necessary. I dunno, I think regaining is probably a non-issue for the most part.

Technically, you don't need to be a drunkard to be a drunken master, so I don't see what personality has to do with it. Tying this style to a particular personality is stretching it a bit. Aside from that, I would agree somewhat as a) I haven't seen him use a lot of unarmed fighting maneuvers and b) the DM style relies on dexterity, feints and corps-a-corps moves, which he doesn't use either.

Okay, sorry about the rant ;) I wonder if he could fit the Knight Protector class from CW or the similar class from BoED (defender of Sealthiel iirc)... It's not ToB, but given his mission, it doesn't sound so far-fetched.
