| Deviston05-06-05, 09:42 AM | I have been trying (( to very littel avail )) to create the Benders, from that cartoon on nickilodeon called Avatar: The Last Airbender. Heres what I have: -Flavor Text -Hit Die -Skills -The fact that "Bender" is the class and you choose element based on birth location (( one is born a bender, its not exactly a chosen thing )) -Instead of "Spells" they have "Bendings" -Each Bender has one bending that is at will, whenever they want (( always a minor one, like prestidigitation for heating or cooling the room or what have you )) -Bending will be done on a point basis or as spontaneous bending, i think points are better (( like psionics )) but maybe that's just me -there is one bender in all the world who can learn bendings from every element, the Avatar -Fire Benders are usually Lawful or Evil -Water Benders are usually Neutral (( on the law and choas axis )) or Good -Air Benders are usually Lawful or True Neutral -Earth Benders are usually Chaotic or Good -The Avatar is one of the benders, but has access to all elements, and so his alignment is determined by his Bending Element -Bending list I saw as pretty much ripping all the spells from the Shugenja, Wu-Jen, and all other elemenatl spells and slapping point costs on them and asigning them to their apropriate bender, with one more really nice spell for each, Bend. It's a level 0 and it just makes really nifty pictures and designs and whatever with your element. Pretty much a, artists delight, thats all, but the element reverts to its regular form when fininshed or times out -There are other bending classes aswell as the Benders: Bending Warrior (( like psionic warrior in the point for point basis, a bender who uses his bendings to aid his combat prowess )) Hidden Bender: born in an area where his bending order is opposed even threaten with death! he learns to hide himself and his bendings (( pretty mich a rogue )) Wild Bender: Born in the middle of nowhere, no real law except that of the tribe, their Mad Bending is formidable and very unstable, normal Benders stay very far from Wild Benders (( a cross between a Wild Mage and a Barbarian )) -Bending PRC's ive got floofing up around in my head, but I will wait until the meat is done before i start fleshing everything out . . . so tell me everyone, what do you all think? |
| Maltivix05-06-05, 04:01 PM | personally I think you have a good skeleton bending( spells) it should have a point system, but for spell lists it should be the domain spells from the cleric domain lists, Air domain for Air benders and so on. Also the spells no longer need the tribute of any material components as long as thier element is precent, also they can replace somatic components with thier attacks at about three times a day. That is how I see it. |
| Neff05-06-05, 04:34 PM | Unfortunately, not everything we've seen from the benders can be reflected with base D&D spells and mechanics. Earthbenders would probably require a modified version of Telekinesis that only affects earthen material and with a higher weight limit to reflect their rock throwing ability. As for firebenders, not much would be needed there. Burning Hands, Heat Metal, Fire Breath, and other such spells would probably suffice. For waterbenders, I would probably suggest the same thing as for earthbenders: modified Telekinesis for things like the water whip. And perhaps bring about the Tsunami spell from the old 1e Oriental Adventures. Airbenders...hmm. Gust of wind would definitely be the base of their abilities. As far as that wind ball that Aang uses the move around...not too sure about that. |
| Nephlite05-06-05, 04:38 PM | -there is one bender in all the world who can learn bendings from every element, the Avatar -Fire Benders are usually Chaotic or Evil -Water Benders are usually Neutral (( on the law and choas axis )) or Good -Air Benders are usually Neutral all around -Earth Benders are usually Lawful or Good Seemed pretty Lawful to me. They folow orders. They have guards. They have law and they have militaries.(usually lawful creatures like Hobgoblins have them) I suggest: -Fire Benders are usually Lawful or Evil -Water Benders are usually Neutral (( on the law and choas axis )) or Good -Air Benders are usually Lawful or True Neutral -Earth Benders are usually chaotic or Good Air bender society was pretty much lawful. You can't base all air benders on the hero. |
| Deviston05-06-05, 05:04 PM | On Alignments : The reason i saw the Fire as chaos, they took over alot. that is an overall chaotic thing, but you have to be orderly (( lawful )) to do it, point yours. Earthers i saw as always running from the law (( fire )) and defying them, so therefore chaotic and air, good point. On Spells: I will post the entire list that I came up with, no matter what class, it is a "Bendings Known" system. You start with X bendings known. then maybe you level, then you get one more (( this is all example BTW )) you dont just get it then and there. you spend one day per bender level to practice and learn it. Exception! If you have a Bending Scroll, you "cast" the bending from it, using it up as a scroll normally, but you then have the Bending memorized without the days per level. about them being from the cleric lists . . . to few. much too few. ill post the list and you all tell me yes oder nein. oh, and ill will be creating a few spells so those will have to be judged as well. |
| DragonWorldOrder05-07-05, 05:10 AM | If it helps you can use what I already have to build on what you have, I figure if enough of us work on this we'll get it sooner or later. Elemental Bender PrC (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5700617#post5700617) Elemental Bender Core Clase (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5716783#post5716783) |
| Deviston05-07-05, 10:50 AM | OOH !! I love you! That's a great bender class for the monk!! Mind if I post it here? I really want all the bender optiotns on the same page. And seeing as how psionics as a mirror to the core classes, i think us benders should have it too, so, you are the great one who contributes the "Monk Bender". Im about to post my idea for the point system, so keep yalls ideas flowin |
| DragonWorldOrder05-07-05, 04:34 PM | Sure go right ahead, I'm just glad to help, and if you read my threads I have for Benders you'll see I was leaning toward a point system for the abilities as well. But I didn't have the chance to really sit down and work on that just yet, then again I haven't had the time to sit down and work on my water template ether, for more on that fallow my sig to the Charged and Skyborn. Feel free to check out my other threads too, I'm starved for feed back on them so that when there finally done I can rub it in the faces of my stuffy group. These are the same people that are afraid of there own shadows when it comes to using something not from one of the WotC published books. LOL, or then again it could just be anything that I made find or try to use not from a WotC book is what there afraid of. Ether way I figure if enough people look or comment on my pages to help me get my stuff balanced and all that then I can use it. Besides that is what WotC does when they make new stuff, and just because the stuff I pick to use itsn't from one of there books doesn't mean its not good. |
