I am wodering if anyone knows of a set of base stats that constitue an average stat array.

The DMG page 111 describes an elite array as 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
The DMG page 110 describes an average array as 3d6 six times and that the all creatures in the MM are average characters or 6 10's (modified by the racial modifiers of course). It seems odd that an ellite array would have the lowest score as an 8 and that an average array would have a lowest stat being a 10.

I was thinking of an average array as 12, 11, 10, 10, 9, 8. I am curious to know if there are any official numbers anywhere.

Part of the usage of the term "average" in this case probably relates to the likelyhood that a heroic character would have at least one strong reasonably statistic, one particularly weak stat, and relatively mixed mid-range stats.

I don't think the usage of "average" in this case refers to any sort of statistical analysis of average die-rolls, and would serve as a baseline for DMs to generate stats quickly for NPC in their campaigns.
