| bkdubs12309-10-07, 09:24 PM | My players want to do an all Animal campaign, but I realized I don't have the templates anywhere. Are they in Savage Species? If so I'll need to get that. Or is there any links to something similar online? Thanks, alot! |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique09-10-07, 09:29 PM | Bam! (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/awaken.htm). Not a template, but it tells you how to make an awakened animal. |
| bkdubs12309-10-07, 09:31 PM | Ah, of course the spell. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks again! |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique09-10-07, 09:34 PM | No problem. They want to do an Animal campaign right? If it was an anthropomorphic campaign, you'd use the templates in the back of Savage Species. |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-10-07, 09:35 PM | One of them should be a Donkey! |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique09-10-07, 09:43 PM | Or better yet, a psionic/magic whale. |
| bkdubs12309-10-07, 09:44 PM | Would it be too crazy to simply allow my players to roll all of their mental stats? Or are there racial traits for Animals presented in Savage Species? That would be kinda helpful too. Oh, also, its an animal campaign, with a little anthropomorphism. Not half-animal, half-human but animal with opposable thumbs is more like it :D! |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique09-10-07, 09:49 PM | No racial traits as far as I know. Let them roll away. As long as it's an animal campaign, let them be more on par with how they should be. Honestly being an animal isn't anything special, mechanically at least. Wolves have that nifty trip ability, but that's not like OMGWTFTEHBOKENZORZ. One of my players is playing an awakened dog as a character. It's working out just fine between the normal player characters and the anthropomorphic cheetah. |
| bkdubs12309-10-07, 09:55 PM | The BBEG is a Moonrat who's intelligence starts at 10 and works its way up during the stages of the Moon! :O I think I'll come up racial traits for the animals the players want to be and then let them roll all of their stats. The stat postives and negatives won't be exactly as extreme as they should be, but that will help keep the game closer to par. |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-10-07, 09:55 PM | Monitor Lizard Bard all the way! |
| BaelinWhale09-10-07, 09:58 PM | The Forgotten Realms campaign setting also has some applicable options for bestial characters. I believe it's in Champions of Valor, under the Fangshields region substitution levels. One of the interesting abilities is for a druid to wild shape a pair of functional hands :P |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique09-10-07, 10:00 PM | Remember that animals do technically have racial traits. They get all the animal traits (not sure exactly what they are, just check the SRD) and anything listed under their entry. Don't forget the size increase some animals have from higher HD. If you want to get more in depth about it, shoot. It'll only make for more interesting characters. |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-10-07, 10:02 PM | Are these animals special or are all the animals in the world this way? |
| Starfols09-10-07, 10:16 PM | You've inspired me sir. I now want to make an awakened house cat barbarian with an urge to kill level 1 commoners. :evillaugh |
| bkdubs12309-11-07, 12:27 AM | I'm leaning toward a 50/50 sort of spread where half the world's animals have intelligence and personality and the other half are normal. About 90% of the 50% that have minds are perfectly content with allowing the humanoids to think they don't. |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-11-07, 01:50 AM | It's kinda like Animal Farm... |
