I never really liked the paladin's need for all attributes to be good (str for combat, con for survival, wis for spells and cha for class abilities), and the CW varient was, put bluntly, pretty lousy, thus I have devised my own varient, and it looks like this:

saves: Fort and Will: good
Ref: poor
BAB: Good (as HD)

HD: D10

Spells: None

Alignment: Any good

Skills: As Paladin

Just like normal paladin exept where mentioned:

Level special
Level 2 Divine Grace, Lay on Hands, Radient Light
Level 5 Smite Evil 2/day, Blessed Weapon,
Level 10 Smite Evil 3/day, Righteous Fury 1/day
Level 20 Smite Evil 5/day, Righteous Fury 2/day

Radient light (Su): The paladin's skin glows with divine purity, as a result, the give off light as a tourch. this ability can be activated/deactivated at will.

Blessed Weapon (Su): The paladin's grace spreads to any tool used to combat evil. Any weapon wielded by the paladin counts as good for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction

Righteous Fury (Ex): The is infused with the rage of fallen innocents. As a free action that does not provoke an attack of oppurtunity, the paladin can enter an evil slaying frenzy: he/she gains temporary hit points equal to his level times his/her charisma modifier, all attacks are treated as smite vil without drawing from the normal daily supply, weapons weilded by him/her are treated as having the holy enhancement, he/she is treted as if under protection from evil and gains a spell resistance equal 5+level+charisma modifier. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3+charisma score. they may use this ability an additional time each day every 10 levels.

Well, what do you think? They get no spells or special mount but upon attaining level 10 any evil creatures nearby are in trouble, upto then though there's nothing special.

So: Overpowerded, underpowered, balanced or broken beyond repair and blasphermy in the eyes of all paladin players everywhere?

Edit: no code of conduct, just as long as they're good.

Hmm...i dont like the glowing skin..that's just asking to be a target in a dungeon or at night hehehe.

On paper it seems abit overpowered, but that's just on paper. I'd like to see how it works when actually implimented.

I meant to put that as on/off at will, there's a point, i'll edit it now.

So... A 20th paladin with say 30 charisma (easily doable by level 20) will get:
200 temporary hit points
+10 to hit
+20 to damage
another +2 to hit and +2d6 damage
35 spell resistance
protection from evil

and all this will last for 13 rounds... :uh-huh:

If i would allow this remake most likely all the BBEGs would convert to neutral alignments...

Seriously though this turns the paladin into a walking killing machine that will scare the SH*T out of a balor. It needs some serious toning down.

hmm :whatsthis ...... I see your point........ Do we think 1/day full stop and make the paladin take some non-lethal damage, say :plotting: 2 points per round or "Oh sweet mother of :censored: lord, burn this class, burn this thread and burn the starter of it"?

...........At 20th level, many worth while creatures can A)fly in order to avoid smite attacks (they have to be mellee) and B)teleport: "Oh look, that pesky, glowing mortal is charging at me screaming warcries, I'll be back in 15 rounds"

Hmm, the concept is good. I agree that Paladin's as they are, are a bit restricted. The Belkar vs Miko battle in Order of the Stick is a point I fully agree with. And let's not get me started on Wizards...

This version is good, in regards to not being so damn restricted and thus not worth playing if the conditions required aren't met. And the alignment thing always bugged me. Why can't a character of virtue be a rebel fighting against a corrupt government? :(

However, yes, the example of the 30 cha 20th level Paladin has a point. I'd build things up slower, over a few more levels, and if don't have such a huge power boost without a drawback. Again, let's not get me started on why Wizards lose out compared to so many new classes; it's related, but not that relevant to this discussion, except that a LOT of classes would be overshadowed by this as it stands.

That said, good concept. Just needs thinking through.

Paladins are supposed to scare the **** out of Balors. And Pit fiends. Pretty much all evil outsiders short of the Nine or the Demon Princes. Or at least be looked on as "Oh heaven, You only live once!" or "What in Elysium is he doing?" (I would assume evil outsiders would use the names of the celestial realms as swears so...)
