| Phasics11-15-05, 09:35 PM | How does this sound for a Barbarian Prestige class. It feel like it would be a touch overpowered but I'll list a few things at the end which might compensate for that. Basically Sharman d8 Requirement ability to Rage Levels gained as sharman are counted as barbarian levels for the purpose of access to barbairan abilites e.g. Level 10Barb Lv1 Sham = effective lv11 barb who gets acess to greater Rage. Shaman is a spell caster and follows the spell progrssion table of the bard (possibly sorc/wiz trying to keep it balenced). Spell casting is CON based. Spells can only be cast while Raging Sharmans cannot cast cantrips Bonus spells are calculated by the maxium CON that would be achived during a rage. e.g. CON 16 plus Rage +4 = 20 so bonus spells 2 1 1 1 1 Spells points are recovered during rest. Sharmans cannot access any metamagic feats. Sharmans know a set number of spells can cannot learn new ones nor can they cast from scrolls or use wands etc. There magic is not classified as archane or divine for the purposes of multiclassing. Possible penalties for balence a) lower hit dice d6 or even d4 (makes them less able to tank like a normal barb b) limited to magic schools x , y , z (perhaps ones which are more buffing less conjuring etc) c) Once the rage ends the Charcter suffers 2 x level of highest spell cast during rage of CON damage which heals at the rate of 1CON/round. If this causes the charcter to go into -HP then he autostabilises at 0HP and remain unconcious until he has regain his full CON score. d) any other you can think of I personally Like C) it creates situational vunerability easily exploited by the DM by simply extending combat. and perhaps a little of B also or even a set list of spells which would be in keeping with spell one would cast to make self more powerful or directly cause some serious hurt) [no mind control no creature summoing etc] Thoughts ? I kind of liek the idea that you can only cast while raging and that becuase of this your limiting your damage potential by spending rage rounds casting instead of attacking. becuase of this I dont think it needs a large penatly slapped on it but I'd like some feedback. If the idea is good I'll write up the build more properly Cheers |

Also, physical ability scores should NEVER be used as primary spellcasting stats, in my opinion. Then again, that's just because I think that if a player wants to be a caster/fighter, then he/she needs to realize that he/she can't focus on just one set of scores. Casters (especially arcane) aren't supposed to be the best combatants and melee-oriented aren't supposed to that good at casting. With Con. as the primary stat for spellcasting...well, it just seems like it removes the gap that is supposed to exist between melee and casting characters. That rant being over, you might not get too many comments on this because a Rage Mage PrC already does exist and this one doesn't really form an interesting new take on it. Just my opinion. Not trying to discourage you. |

| TheDarknessWithin11-16-05, 01:52 AM | Its in the Complete Warrior. Its is mostly geared to sorc/barbs, it has d8 hit die, average BAB, and some cool little abilities when it rages and decides to cast spells. Ive played one before and theyre a great class to play if you have the right party to complement its abilities. Preferably one with a full arcane caster. |
| FriendlyBiscuit11-16-05, 11:58 AM | Ive played one before Maybe you could answer me a question, then? I get a little confused about the Spell Rage ability. Since I don't have the book with me, let's make up numbers and say you're a Rage Mage with Rage 5/day, and Spell Rage 2/day. How does it work, exactly? 1 - You have 5 total rages, 2 of which you can cast spells during. 2 - You have 5 purely physical rages, and 2 spellcasting rages. 3 - Your number of rages/day has been reduced from 5 to 2, because spell rages are more powerful and this must be balanced/nerfed. You now have 2 rages/day, during which you can cast spells. 4 - Something else entirely? |
