| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 10:43 PM | is it just me or does anyone else these days feel like all these classes and prc's are perfectly balanced? i've been noticing the trend lately and i think that wotc should stop. if they started making some classes that were underpowered and some that were overpowered i think that gameplay would be improved greatly and get more people into gaming. what do you others think? |
| Eela607-22-06, 10:48 PM | Firstly, classes in D+D 3.5 are not balanced. At all. There's any number of posts on the board that postulate as such. Either you aren't aware, don't care, or are trolling - hopefully the first. Secondly, I don't think making MORE unbalance is a good thing. The entire D+D system is based off each character pulling their weight in a party - if, say, Swashbuckler is underpowered, why PLAY a swashbuckler unless you enjoy punishment or have a concept that simply cannot be expressed without said Swashbuckler's abilities? - One last thing. If you expect the boards to take you seriously, please make an attempt at proper use of Capital Letters. Thank you. |
| Seerow07-22-06, 10:48 PM | Okay, who let the troll out from under his bridge? |

Dead Karma has it right. We've all seen the 15th lvl fighter vs. 15th lvl Cleric fight to a draw. :P edit: Trolling? Maybe, or someone's sense of humor has been grappled. :dancin: |
| Seerow07-22-06, 10:59 PM | No, I have a sense of humor, I just don't find this in particular very amusing. He could have at least thrown in some obtuse anecdotes. |
| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 11:01 PM | well to the first post, i am aware of all those pointless threads, i do care about balance and three, not trolling, but more trying to have a sense of humor. as for CAPTILIZATION if you want to come over to my house and press the shift key feel free. i think that if from time to time if we can step back and look at how ridiculous we can be and actually laugh at ourselves then we can have a better time of things. oh, and a :cookie: to Ezell Pike for a sense of humor (i hope) :) |

WotC makes base classes that not everybody likes because no matter what, somebody somewhere ends up liking them. Not everything that they make will be balanced, and all we can do really is try our best to have fun with what we've got. You've brought up a very good point, though. The entire D+D system is based off each character pulling their weight in a party - if, say, Swashbuckler is underpowered, why PLAY a swashbuckler unless you enjoy punishment or have a concept that simply cannot be expressed without said Swashbuckler's abilities? ...to have fun? Okay, who let the troll out from under his bridge? Now now, posting your opinion does not count as "trolling" (can that be used as a verb?). |
| Ezell Pike07-22-06, 11:20 PM | oh, and a :cookie: to Ezell Pike for a sense of humor (i hope) :) Got milk? |
| Seerow07-22-06, 11:22 PM | Now now, posting your opinion does not count as "trolling" (can that be used as a verb?). Ah how naive one can be. |
| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 11:24 PM | Schitzophrenia_Manifest, that's pretty much how i feel about why all the classes. i think that the best class and the best race to be fit in with what you want your character to be. plus i think that it is rather tiresome to see these threads about how some class is over or under powered, so i thought that i'd start this one to see if everyone would get the joke. course i knew that i'd get blasted for the stuff but hey, why care about what someone i most likely don't know nor will ever meet has to say about me? i just want people to post to the thred and have a little fun. we all need to try and not take things so seriously. this is a message board about a game, not something that is really all that important except in the fact that it provides us with some entertainment that might make us actually have some fun. |
| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 11:24 PM | Got milk? sorry, just ran out |

Hear-hear. Ah how naive one can be. Okay, now I can't help but notice that you've done little so far in this thread other than fling insults (if not insults, then most certainly sarcastic remarks). And while you're entitled to your own opinion, you shouldn't shoot everyone elses down like you seem to be doing. Now I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, and if I'm giving off the impression that I am I'm very sorry. But could you please post constructive criticism? |

Normally that implies contributing to the topic at hand. Since this is clearly either a joke topic or a trolling topic, depending on point of view, it is impossible to contribute anything serious. So what is it you're looking for me to do? Pat everyone on the back and say "good one!" when the joke lacks in anything amusing? |
| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 11:37 PM | i'm not trying to get a fight going either. |
| Schitzophrenia_Manifest07-22-06, 11:40 PM | i'm not trying to get a fight going either. Yes, I think it best that this thread dies if it's going to turn into a debate. |

| Dead_Karma07-22-06, 11:44 PM | yes i should have realized that as usual when i'm joking people tend to fail to see the point oh well, at least there are other threads around here that i can try and joke around. so i apologize for annoying the people that failed their sense of humor check. :) |
| king1234123407-22-06, 11:55 PM | I hear you and agree. if people would stop :censored:ing power gaming and say were here to have fun not to be the strongest. with that said who cares if a class seems under or over powered cause its about fun. |
| JulesCARV07-23-06, 01:39 AM | I saw the following review of the D&D core rulebook set on Amazon.com. No joke. Perhaps the biggest issue I have is with the "balancing" of the character classes. Designed so that all character classes are "equally powerful" at all times, what Wizards of the Coast has effectively done is gut the classes in favor of cookie cutter standups. Now, a wizard and a fighter stand on even ground throughout their careers, as long as they both choose the propper "feats" to give their character those special abilities. In 2e, the classes were balanced much more realistically. A wizard was capable of raining fiery death upon his opponents, but he made some serious trades for that power. A fighter couldn't cast a spell ever and was likely to be dumber than a brick, but there was never a time when he wasn't ready to go with armor, sword, or spear. Paladins, arguably an over-powered class in previous editions, certainly had a significant level of ability, but the trade-offs for that power were severe to say the least. The third edition paladin is barely a shadow of his former self and there's no longer any draw whatsoever to play one. |
