Greetings,

I have a number of ideas for a future game and looking for some additional flexibility on how characters advance. One thing that came to mind was some discussion - I believe on these boards - of class balance and a point based system for how each is constructed. I want to say it was based off a 200 point model.

Does anyone know where I might find that thread or various people's proposal of how balancing is done? Thanks!

What you're thinking of is probably Lotus Crane's re-balanced classes, the work for which can be found here (http://www.freewebs.com/lotuscrane/) . There's also an Uber Generics system that's been posted in the Unearthed Arcana house-rules forum that may catch your eye.

The Uber Generics system is excellent.

Did a quick look through the 4 pages of topics for the thread in question, but the few topics that looked like they might be it, didn't pan out. Can someone post a link to it for me? Thanks!

Also keep in mind that one thing you could do is go back to the past: float the XP requirements for the classes. For example, require that the druid, cleric, and wizard (usually considered some of the more powerful classes) have more XP to reach the next level while for the fighter (usually considered one of the weaker classes) require that he needs less XP to reach the next level. Also, what you can do is make the powerful spellcaster bonus XP ability requirements more harder to obtain than a fighter or a rogue. They used to do both of these in 1st edition AD&D and it wasn't that bad.

*bump*

Those are good ideas, another one would be re-doing the Feat trees as in Monte cook's Iron Heroes (http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?iron-lore)
