| PsionicMonk10-23-04, 02:15 AM | I hope this is the right Forum for this Im personally finding it hard to reason to go into rage, just for the +2 to damage and +2 to fort, and the amount of useless HP that you gain that is only there to serve for NPCs to get a few mroe attacks in What I was thinking to help give a reason to rage in a big melee or something else is to have a "demorlize" effect and maybe a fear effect later on in the PC class. Just my thoughts |
| allenchan10-23-04, 02:24 AM | Wow... Rage is incredibly awesome (I almost always play barbarians) There are feats that add fear affects to rage. Ie, intimidating rage. Rage is especially useful in conjunction with two handed weapons (since they do extra str damage) and power attacks. Theres also tons of ways to make it even sicker, but they involve a lot of non-core material (races of stone, complete warrior, etc). One example is that dwarfs can take a class taht gives con to AC, so when they rage, they get more con, thus more AC, so they arent taking the penalties. pretty sweet huh? |
| Nerfherder310-23-04, 02:56 AM | For sheer offensive output NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats a Barabarian. What they make up for in offensive melee output they tend to lack in"finesse" type fighting. That is things like spring attack, PBS and precise shot or anything ranged, 2 weapon fighting, combat expertise basically anything that a fighter might pick up. But put a great axe in his hand and WOOOOOOO!!! Look out. Heres a for example using The Complete Warrior: A Human 6thlvl barb/10th lvl Frenzied Beserker using a +5 Great Sword with weapon focus, and a base 20 strength can have a potential damage output of: 2D6+88 damage!! Thats max PA for 5 attacks at +19/+19/+14/+9/+4 Thats also not including any str bonuses for magic enhancement, or Enlarge spell etc. With improved crit you can X2 a crit with an 18+ threat range for 4D6 +196 damage!! Can you say DC 15 fort save or die from massive damage!!. I have something simular to this but using the Psionics handbook. I can't rage but the Warmind has a simular ability. He is a half giant with a Goliath Greathammer. My crits do 12D6+static damage, I roughly computed a crit from him at lvl twenty with full buffs on in which he could potentialy do over 450 pts of damage in one hit, however VERY unlikely because I would have to roll 6's on 26D6  |
| allenchan10-23-04, 03:09 AM | There's a goliath barbarian in the party I DM right now... when he rages his strength is 30. ECL 4, mind you, and his damage is like 3d6+24... its hard to throw things at the party that he wont massacre, though he does only have an ac of like 12 lol. When you can kill yourself in one hit very easily, there's a problem :mymy: |
| MetalGemini10-23-04, 01:06 PM | Rage can also be useful in non-combat situations. Need to break down a door? Rage for a strength bonus. The AC penalty won't matter (unless the door is actually a mimic :D ) and the Con bonus doesn't hurt you. |
