Barbarian compatible prestige classes? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-08-07, 10:45 AM I'm going to be playing a half-ogre barbarian for a new game, but I'll be starting at level 7 (the campaign's already in progress). Any prestige class recommendations?

03-08-07, 11:22 AM Frenzied berserker if you and your party are willing to work hand in hand to manage the debilitating drawbacks.

Else, straight barb should be fine, though you could consider 2 lvs of fighter for the extra feats.

03-08-07, 02:35 PM The drawbacks of the FB are that he can pretty much wipe out his party if things go ugly (but there are quite a few fixes to help prevent it ofc).

03-08-07, 03:50 PM An ogre barbarian... Frozen berserker or Runescarred berserker could be nice. Bear warrior or - if you can spare the feats - Primeval can be really good.

03-08-07, 04:11 PM Bear Warrior is a nice choice in general, although it really depends on what you're doing with him. A Tempest, Exotic Weapon Master, or even a Rage Mage would make good options in the right context.

03-08-07, 04:22 PM Frenzied berserker is the ultimate rager, the drawback being that he has to start making will saves to avoid frenzying when he starts taking damage, and once he starts killing, he can't stop until he runs himself out, if there's no enemies left to kill, he'll start on whoever's nearest.

It's kind of like having a werewolf in your party, only worse.

What books are the Frozen and Runescarred berserkers, and Primeval in?

Frenzied Berserker and Bear Warrior both seem cool. I'll qualify for Bear Warrior in another level, so maybe I'll take that. Frenzied Berserker will probably require my getting a feel for the other players first. I might have fun attacking them for no good reason, but they might not enjoy it. ;)

It is in unapproachable east - basically a barb prc which continues to improve your barb features(dr, NA, rage) with limited spellcasting(but boy do those spells rock...)

03-09-07, 04:47 AM Primeval is in Frostburn; it's a bit like bear warrior but you choose an animal to turn into several times per day (irregardless of your rages), and the animal form becomes progressively stronger and tougher. Also, the character him/herself gets some stat modifications - you lose int and cha and gain most others. You also get a few more "savage" abilities.

In general, I consider it an improved form of bear warrior, but tougher to get into.

While the cold subtype can hurt in a world full of fireball flingers, the class is nifty and has its own bonuses such as natural armor, natural weaponry, auto-stabilization, A style of TWF, and even Rend.
