Barbarian 'Fast Movement' Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-30-06, 03:52 PM Hello, I was flipping through my PHB 3.5 and checking out the Barbarian class, but I became confused about the Fast Movement feature they get at level 1.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm confused about the part where it says you can wear medium armor but not carry a heavy load and you get the bonus. But then down below it says if a human barbarian is wearing medium armor or carrying a medium load, you don't get the bonus. I thought possibly that last "or" should have been an "and" but I'm not sure about the differing load types. I probably read it wrong or something, what did I miss?

I have never seen this before, but it usually (always, in many different & unrelated groups) has worked: if you are not wearing heavy armor OR carrying a heavy load, then you get the bonus to speed. At least in my experince.

Fast Movement:

Fast Movement (Ex): A barbarian's land speed is faster than the norm for his race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian's speed because of any load carried or armor worn.

You can't wear heavy armor. You can't wear Heavy Load. That is all it says for it to activate.

If you wear meduim armor with meduim load: you move 30 feet because 30 feet - 10 from armor/load + 10 fast movement= 30.
