I was wondering what other good methods of combat a Barbarian could use instead of 2h+power attack, like TWF or Spring attack or reach weapons.

If anybody has played somethings besides 2h+PA please give me some good suggestions.

There is the "Whirling Frenzy" variant that lends itself relatively well to Dex based Builds.
I have played several two weapon fighter Barbs, all of which pounced (before the variant out of CC).

I played a Halfling Barbarian/Rogue once (around level 3 or 4)...Raging Sneak Attack from the shadows with a dagger was fun! Unfortunately she died before the build really got going (she caught a rather terminal case of "Slippery Feet on a Tall Cliff" syndrome).

But yeah, it's one to try...Barbarian/Rogue (not neccesarily Halfling) or even a Barbarian/Invisible Blade armed with dagger(s). No-one expects the guy armed with a dagger to go into a bloodlust frenzy :D

How much damage would i lose if i took TWF instead of PA+2h

Nothing is going to equal 2h+PA on sheer damage. If you crit with a scythe you're looking at 22 to 118 at 6th alone.

But that sure is going to get boring fast, you're right.

Well, although 2 hand fighting is probly the best, I think that maybe a thrower (using hand axes or spears or somthing) may be neat, here are a few feats to consider.

quick draw precise shot, far shot
Brutal throw (C Adventurer use str stead of dex for throwing)
point blank shot
throw anything (C Warrior) allowing you to throw anything
power throw power attack on a throw

Use a shield, and a hand axe, short spear, or a regular spear, w/out the sheild, either way, you've got options.

It's a bit feat-intensive (meaning it's probably better for a fighter/barbarian than for a full barbarian, though you could probably pull it off reasonably well as a human), but sword-and-shield TWF is kind of fun. (You either need a light shield or Oversized TWF to really do well with it, and either shield spikes or a shield with the bashing enchantment. And, of course, the TWF feats and Improved Shield Bash).

Plus, if you find you need some extra damage in a given encounter, there's nothing stopping you from dropping your shield and using your one-handed weapon of choice two-handed (and even picking up Power Attack for this purpose). And otherwise you get some extra AC (which is an area where barbarians typically suffer, given their armor limitations and rage penalties).

I used Two shortswords, or went unarmed, and took the feat "Snow Tiger Berserker". (I played in the Realms a lot)
Going Unarmed was the better way, because I could still Power Attack (if I wanted to).

Edit:
The throwing build works great. "Hurling Charge" out of the Miniatures handbook is amazing. You can Throw whatever you want on the way to your target, draw your main weapon, and two handed attack. It racks up quite a bit of dmg.

Thanks everybody. More opinions would be welcome too.

You could go barbarian and take a few levels of warblade and then head into the bloodclaw master prestiege class if you want to be a TWF Barb or you could just go straight barb and use three feats to take tiger claw manuevers.

You could always go barb then reaping Mauler and play as if you're one of those professional wrestles. It woks out even better if you're dm will let you be a lizard man and you take monster feats like improved natural attack and improved grab. Of course if you're Dm won't let you be a lizardman you could just take improved unarmed strike, improved grapple, superior unarmed strike and maybe even snap kick. It won't be as good as using a weapon, but then you'll also never be unarmed as long as you have your limbs anyway.

A grappling barb build looks like fun early on. Not sure how it will fare at higher lvs though.
