So I was think my next character would be this idea. The first half of the equation is easy, a male barbarian most likely human with a template with a large weapon, the power attack tree and leader. The second part is where it gets hard what to makes a woman of the world. I know I want her to be a tiefling. But what class? I was thinking a spell caster would be classic, and I always liked classic stuff. But there are so many choses Bard, Beguiler, Sorcerer, Witch and so on.... What I need is a good idea for a my consort. |

Are you (or the DM) using the Level Adjustment Buy-off (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm) option from Unearthed Arcana? If not, I would avoid playing a spellcaster, as you lose a caster level from the Tiefling level adjustment. If you use the variant, then this LA cost is quite minimal, and actually disapears in the long run. Even still, perhaps you don't care about level adjustments and lost caster levels. With a Dex and Int boost, tieflings make great rogues, wizards, and beguilers. With the Cha penalty, they tend to be worse as spontaneous casters (sorcerer and bard). A beguiler would be an interesting "opposite" of the barbarian. One is a straight-forward, hit-em-hard guy, and the other focuses on hindering, confusing, debuffing, and otherwise nuetralizing opponents. The two could compliment eachother quite nicely. |

It's at the end of the beguiler class (I don't have the exact page handy) toward the beginning of the book. It's primarilly Illusions and Enchantments, with some general utility thown in (such as Mage Armor and Dispel Magic). Remember that a beguiler gets access to all of the spell on her list each day, so she doesn't have to choose them. I think this could be a good thematic and mechanical choice. The two of the characters will probably work very well together. |
| HobbitGuy142009-24-07, 01:19 PM | Beguiler also works thematically if you decide that Miss Tiefling is actually a manipulator - the "power behind the throne" type. Mr. Barb is under her spell, and his rule is only nominal. she's the one with all the real power. |
| EvilVegan09-24-07, 01:28 PM | Beguiler all the way. One of the least powerful looking classes, but one of the best. |
| Dragoloth09-24-07, 01:46 PM | If your using UA them maybe a human or changling(for the minor shape change ability) with a devil bloodline(gives bluff, diplomacy and charisma bonuses). A charismatic queen would augment a barbarian king nicely. |
