I understand why Paladin looses their class ability if they change alignement. After all, their alignement defines pretty much their powers.

However, a monk doesn't loose his class abilities if he looses his lawful alignement. I understand why. He still has his training, and doesn't forget them overnight.

However, why does the barbarian looses his rage ability if he becomes lawful? Does he forget how to get mad overnight?

There's no good reason. Do note that you don't get lawful over night though.

I'm sorry, normally I wouldn't do this but this just bugs me.

Loose = not tight
Lose = not winning

This notice is brought to you by the letters O, C, and D.

Can't the letters L, S, E get in on this spelling action?

I personally don't understand how being lawful makes you lose the rage: whether disciplined state of clarity that boosts you, anger (I've seen angry lawful people), or bloodlust (Look at Hextor).

I hypothesis it was invented to applease playtesters because it added flavor.

Another vote for that, since the original monk and the barbarian have no justification for their alignment restrictions other then enforced flavor.

(Note: I don't consider the monk being able to use the Law descriptor on unarmed attacks a good justification for the class restriction, but it is at least a reason.)

Ever take a peek at Unearthed Arcana's Orc Paragon? What's the alignment restriction? Oh, there isn't one? Fask-inating. :D I think I'll take the "Extra Rage" feat, while I'm here.

The original idea, as it is, is that anyone Lawful lacks the ability to throw caution to the winds and Rage - hence, Barbarians cannot be lawful. If they become Lawful later, they find themselves too restrained to Rage.

Yes, it's stupid, but that's how it works.

It's pretty stupid, especially if you see that the monk don't loOse (haha, ine yur theet grammarr nazzi!) their ability if they become chaotic.

I mean, only someone with the highest discipline could have the capacity to hold that much training to achieve such supernatural feat.
